Seafood WATCH
    #10876974 -

Hi guys, didn't really know where to put this, so I figured I couldn't go wrong here.

http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/cr_seafoodwatch/sfw_consumers.aspx

Many of you may not be aware, but overfishing is becoming a big problem in the world. If any of you like fish, you may be interested in seeing how you can help by buying fish that are sustainable. I expect some people to give me some crap for posting this here, but if anyone appreciates this and makes a change for the better, then it's worth it.

If you go here: http://www.montereybayaquarium.org/cr/cr_seafoodwatch/download.aspx ; you can click on your area and print out a guide to keep handy.

I'm not at all affiliated with Seafood WATCH or Monterey Bay Aquarium!
Just found out about this site today.

Your efforts are futile, American seafood consumption is not the problem.

There you have it, folks! The final word! Americans can officially eat whatever they want without any possibility of harming ecosystems.

My seafood consumption has gone down to at most a few times a year.  There's just such rampant overfishing with no regards for the consequences.  People blame the asians, and somewhat rightfully so, for overfishing but the whole developed world is really responsible.  Lots of unintended sea life is caught in all of those nets covering our oceans for miles and miles, a lot of miles of nets are lost at sea, sharks are being eradicated, and there's massive amounts of trash in our oceans (not to mention all of the bits of plastic that break down and resemble plankton).  For the longest time I just assumed that nations were responsible enough (or just sensible enough) to have decent regulations and enforcement on how much to fish and what methods to use for fishing, but now it's obvious to me that that is not the case.

The Sea Shepherds are a pretty amazing group who travel the seas finding illegal fishing and making them stop.  They even ram ships, disabling their nets, as a last resort.  Other than this voluntary enforcement, there are no other groups for international fishing regulation enforcement.  Definitely worth checking out.

Way to overlay your own political bias onto what I said.

Americans aren't the source of this particular problem, because we don't eat very much seafood.

I fucking love sea food. Anything to do with shrimp is amazing, same for crab and lobster.
