haha...yeah I totally agree with ya man!

Also, when I said in the above post that patients with a valid script have to get this med directly from the manufacturer:I read this some where last night but cant find the exact link for it now...But I just read on the DEA site that a special pharmacist can provide this medication but the record keeping on it is VERY regulated...

This is just a fraction of what the site had to say about GHB's prescribing and dispensing indications;

PART 1306--PRESCRIPTIONS

    * 5. The authority citation for part 1306 continues to read as follows:

    Authority: 21 U.S.C. 821, 829, 871(b) unless otherwise noted.

    * 6. Section 1306.05 is amended by revising paragraph (a) to read as follows:

Sec. 1306.05 Manner of issuance of prescriptions.

(a) All prescriptions for controlled substances shall be dated as of, and signed on, the day when issued and shall bear the full name and address of the patient, the drug name, strength, dosage form, quantity prescribed, directions for use and the name, address and registration number of the practitioner. Where a prescription is for gamma- hydroxybutyric acid, the practitioner shall note on the face of the prescription the medical need of the patient for the prescription. A practitioner may sign a prescription in the same manner as he would sign a check or legal document (e.g., J.H. Smith or John H. Smith). Where an oral order is not permitted, prescriptions shall be written with ink or indelible pencil or typewriter and shall be manually signed by the practitioner. The prescriptions may be prepared by the secretary or agent for the signature of a practitioner, but the prescribing practitioner is responsible in case the prescription does not conform in all essential respects to the law and regulations. A corresponding liability rests upon the pharmacist, including a pharmacist employed by a central fill pharmacy, who fills a prescription not prepared in the form prescribed by DEA regulations. * * * * *

PART 1310--RECORDS AND REPORTS OF LISTED CHEMICALS AND CERTAIN MACHINES

    * 7. The authority citation for part 1310 is revised to read as follows:

    Authority: 21 U.S.C. 802, 827(h), 830, 871(b) 890.

    * 8. Section 1310.03 is amended by revising paragraph (c) to read as follows:

Sec. 1310.03 Persons required to keep records and file reports.

* * * * * (c) Each regulated person who engages in a transaction with a nonregulated person or who engages in an export transaction that involves ephedrine, pseudoephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, or gamma- hydroxybutyric acid, including drug products containing these chemicals, and uses or attempts to use the Postal Service or any private or commercial carrier must file monthly reports of each such transaction as specified in Sec. 1310.05 of this part.

I was just thinking about how the companies research and test new chemicals and just try to come up with new chemical compositions to make and form new drugs to get their patent on that particular drug...but yeah prisoner I see whatcha mean about how some patents have been "in the making" for a long time.

If they GMed it or hybridized it to make it better (more nutrients, higher yield, larger fruits/flowers, more pest/drought resistant), then let them have their 15 year of fame or whatever. That's how I see it.

Yeah, I've seen people G out plenty.

I've also seen people get stupid drunk.

It doesn't mean I should by default believe that the withdrawals from either can be fatal.

GHB in moderation is probably safer than alcohol in moderation.

Yeah ok, go with "probably safer" because that's your opinion and it's contrary to what people with scientific backgrounds have to say about it. That usually works out well.

You've already had 2 or 3 people tell you that GHB is a GABA agonist as are alcohol and benzos, both of which have potentially fatal withdrawals. Do you know what a GABA agonist means? That's neuroscience talk for "works on the same cells/systems in the brain that alcohol and benzos do."

Do you really need  a god damn scientific paper to believe it's a GABA agonist and withdrawal from GABA agonists can cause fatal seizures? It's a fact. Plain and simple fact.

Are you arguing just for the sake of arguing? It seems like you're just ignoring everything that every intelligent person has said in this thread.

I posted a link written by an MD who states that GHB is safer than alcohol.

I didn't just pull that idea out of my ass.

I feel that the MD's position is more credible than the links that Ruptured Hernia and Wiccan Seeker posted that come from the TEXAS (of all places) Drug and Alcohol Abuse Commission.

That group is a non-profit organization that depends on funding from supporters of the War on Drugs.

Wouldn't you think that they would be more likely to be biased rather than an MD who risked his reputation by defending GHB?

I don't know exactly how Prisoner #1 feels justified in calling the MD a doc'tard.

Is there anything that the MD said that you guys disagree with?

I know what a GABA agonist is, and I don't much appreciate your patronizing tone.

Are you suggesting that every GABA agonist in existence would cause lethal withdrawals?

Are you aware that muscimol is a GABA agonist?

Would someone die from Amanita muscaria withdrawals?

What have I done that you are so sensitive about?

I never posted dosage advice.

We are at a simple disagreement as to what the facts are regarding the lethality of GHB via overdose or withdrawal.

Yeah, you tried to make that weak point already.

Are you accusing me of posting non-factual information?

The article I got the information from about GHB being totally non-toxic was written by an MD and it has been posted on Erowid for over ten years.

How can you insinuate that I would be in any way responsible for the negligence of others who may decide to overindulge in a sedating substance simply because it is non-toxic and it probably won't kill them?

In the article I posted, the MD mentions a subject who took 15 tbs and survived with no sign of organ damage.

Look, I'm all for people being as safe as possible if they are consuming drugs.

Should we not discuss the specifics of these subjects in an effort to find a common ground on the premise that "a random idiot" might do something stupid if he reads certain arguments?

hey man...I'm not trying to be an ass, I like you, so don't go calling my point weak, when I make a very good one

quite plain and simple, it's dangerous and wreckless to tell anybody that anything is completely harmless, even my beloved marijuana, when in fact there ARE dangers to consider. That is my only point.

If you've got science to prove that is is RELATIVELY harmless, that's fine, but never say that ANYTHING is completely harmless. Even too much of any given vitamin can be bad

So it doesn't cause any level of intoxication? Meaning you'd feel quite comfortable with your 17 year old daughter driving on the road if EVERYBODY else on the road had consumed 15 lbs of it?

Honestly I don't know much at all about it...I just know that better safe than sorry is a good rule to follow, and that's why it's better to present BOTH the pros and cons of things

If you can't agree with this, well...I'm sorry you feel my point is weak. I'm just looking out for responsibility

just because you might not do something wreckless doesn't mean the person listening to what you say won't

Really though, isn't Dr Phil an MD? Isnt every crappy infomercial pill that doesnt work accompanied by dozens of testimonials of MD's and research institutions?

An MD doesn't mean dingdong. GHB has its advocates. If you listen to advocates you wont get the truth.

Quote:
the MD mentions a subject who took 15 tbs and survived with no sign of organ damage.

15 tbsp? of the powder? Just the sodium in that would kill you, and if it was potassium GHB it would stop your heart rather painfully.

15 tbsp.. that sounds a lot like 10 ounces. Go to Texas  and look for the biggest steer you can find. Feed it 10oz of GHB, roll a joint and smoke it. The steer well be dead before you finished your joint.

If its not flat out propaganda I'll tell you what happened: the guy puked out 98% of his dose and lived.

Of coarse nobody should drive while sedated.

"Toxic" means capable of causing injury or death, from a biological standpoint.

Since GHB is non-toxic, it doesn't kill any cells it encounters, unlike alcohol.
