Am I being scammed?

So I'm selling a couch and loveseat on craigslist. I listed them for $200, and I got 2 responses. I kinda told both of the people I would sell to them, but I just figured I would sell to whoever's check I received first.

Both of the people told me the same thing, They would send me a check for $200 plus $50 to remove the listing. They have since both told me that they had there secretary write the check, and the amount got screwed up, and one of the checks is for $1,500 the other is for $3,000. They each want me to cash the checks and just give the extra money to their movers. I had just planned on returning 1 check to sender and cashing the other, but I smell a scam now.

And, and I told Don too, because they've moved my desk ...four times already this year and I used to be over by the window and I could see the squirrels, and they were merry, but then, they switched from the Swingline to the Boston stapler, but I kept my Swingline stapler because it didn't bind up as much and I kept the staples for the Swingline stapler and its not okay because if they take my stapler then I'll set the building on fire.

Hmm, so you cash the phony checks, fork over some cash and then they bounce leaving you out of luck, having already handed over the cash to a stranger. Sweet deal

I don't get it, I should be getting the checks in a day or so, I think I'm just gonna cash the first one I get, and give the extra cash back to the guy, and return the next one to sender and tell him I don't feel comfortable dealing with that kind of money.

I asked them to send certified checks, so I'm not sure if it's a scam or not.

It's a fucking scam. Who the fuck has their secretary write a check for a couch on craigslist? And how do both secretaries seem to screw up and write checks for 10x the amount? Do you really have to question whether this is real or not?

someone, in just the last month or so, posted about this same scam. the check was over written, cash the check and give the over payment to the guys that are picking up whatever you're selling.:nonono:

This same exact thing happened to a friend selling a WoW account on craigslist, they sent him a check for $1500 and told him to send the rest back, the account was like $200.  It was a fake money order, but my bank cashed, and then a day later he got a call saying bounced/was fake.  He got a new Xbox 360 out of it, that he didn't have to return though.
