There is plenty of data and support to show that spanking is an effective disciplinary tactic:

Humans are indeed animals, and by the same rightAnonymous #5 said: Spanking does nothing for discipline. A child that is spanked will only weigh the consequence of an action they are about to partake in to determine if the act is worth a bit of pain. 9 out of 10 times, they will partake in the intended action knowing the consequences.
Spanking only causes children to become apprehensive of their parents and makes them aware of the consequences of getting caught for doing what they want to do. If children are spanked, over time, they just learn to not get caught ultimatley creating a disconnection with parents.
Generally, adults that were spanked as children will inherintley resort to spanking their own children UNLESS, they wise up to the ordeal.
Spanking children is just stupid, inneffective, violent and poor parenting.
"Well, I got spanked all the time growing up, and I turned out just fine" - Wrong.. I hear this shit all the time.
IF you were spanked growing up, chances are, you have underlying issues from it.
You make a lot of assumptions, a lot of good people have been spanked (not beaten half to death) and deal with it just fine. Beating and spanking are two different things.
Parents are teachers, and every good teacher knows you can always take away but never add toughness.
When I was little I would knock down or jump over those pens that were put in front of doors for 'time out', didn't get spanked for it, got a talking to, and did it again because I tuned them out as they talked. A bit of spanking would have done the trick. Frankly if spanked for a prior offense the threat of spanking would be enough.
You can reason with kids once they start growing up, in the mean time just stop giving them candy sugar and all that other shit and give them real untainted food. Sure beef costs more than kid cuisine, but if you never give them sugary shit to begin with they won't be as hyper all the time, or as sick.
See where bad parents beat their kids for not shutting the hell up while the TV is on and they won't watch it and eat their pop tarts, a good parent will spank a head after he gave his sister a black eye and have a family meal to then be more open to discuss the situation over real food that has not been in the microwave and contains minimal sugar and refined grain. Frankly I have seen carbohydrates in general to make kids hyperactive, but if one at least limits sugar to almost completely and have good quality food, many seemingly impossible to deal with kids become tamable without spanking. Spanking is the high punishment and should be reserved for the big problems.
