and then there's the maybe/maybe not aspect of NASA not even being our nations real top dog in space exploration :shrug::crazy2:, but the property thing is real, they had some guy on Letterman about it years ago...I haven't looked into it too much so don't attack me I just thought i'd mention

Apophis has already been determined to not impact earth.

99942 Apophis (pronounced /əˈpɒfɪs/, previously known by its provisional designation 2004 MN4) is a near-Earth asteroid that caused a brief period of concern in December 2004 because initial observations indicated a small probability (up to 2.7%) that it would strike the Earth in 2029. Additional observations provided improved predictions that eliminated the possibility of an impact on Earth or the Moon in 2029. However, a possibility remains that during the 2029 close encounter with Earth, Apophis would pass through a gravitational keyhole, a precise region in space no more than about 600 meters across, that would set up a future impact on April 13, 2036. This possibility kept the asteroid at Level 1 on the Torino impact hazard scale until August 2006. It broke the record for the highest level on the Torino Scale, being, for only a short time, a level 4, before it was lowered.[5]

Additional observations of the trajectory of Apophis revealed the keyhole would likely be missed and on August 5, 2006 Apophis was lowered to a Level 0 on the Torino Scale. As of April 16, 2008, the impact probability for April 13, 2036, is calculated as 1 in 45,000.[6] An additional impact date in 2037 was also identified; the impact probability for that encounter was calculated as 1 in 12.3 million.





And sadly Pris is probably right as to the true intention of going to the moon.

How else would they pay for it if NASA didnt get profits from selling advertising real estate?

besides, we are incredibly technologically inept to do what you are suggesting.

Realistically, even your grand kids may not walk on mars.

I have heard of SETI- have they had any contact in the past few years?  I haven't seen any updates on them in a long time. they def have an interesting project but I am wondering if they've had any results

They might want to have a space station on the moon to harvest helium-3 for an energy source.  But I heard it cost more fuel than it's worth, so I duno.

The advertising thing has been done.  Chairface tried to do it but didn't succeed all the way.

Srsly tho, setting up a moonbase shoud be our #1 priority when it comes to space travel.  If we can build a habitable base able to dock and release payloads close to earth we can save having to shoot, say, a mission to mars through the enormous gravity and atmosphere of earth first, and instead boost off from the moon and save a lot of fuel.  Not to mention room on the ship for experiments and food.  Also, a permanent moon base would make it easier to eventually get into mining the moon if it proves feasible, and it would provide a tourist destination for space tourism.  It only makes sense.  I think in a few decades space flights will be a vacation option and if we don't have a moonbase in place we will be behind the times.

according to a book- "Day After Roswell" there were plans to make defense stations in space and I think one of them was on the moon. true story  :sonar:
