I'm not sure why it is even a question. why the fuck should they go back to the fucking moon- unless of course the moon landing never happened  :crazy2:  I don't even buy the conspiracy, but this makes no sense

We know zilch about the moon. If we want to find out more, we'll have to go back there to find out some of those things. And we might need to colonize the place. That would involve getting back up there as well. Unless...we simply choose not to.

We already have plans underway to go to Mars.  I read an article that NASA published awhile back.  I think the actual date for it to take place is something ridiculous though like, 2040.

The moon is a crucial step on the way to mars.


First we can try out many of the habitats on the moon first before the extraordinary cost and risk of going to mars.

Second, Mars is VERY FUCKING FAR AWAY, with a 4+ year journey, we barely have the technology now to get to and from the moon safely, at a reasonable cost to benefit ratio.

A trip to mars is roughly 4 years, one way, stick a few guys in a tin can that long, then have them land on a desolate planet, with no other souls, scratch out a living, and possibly never return home, and if they do, be vastly different from who they were.

We need a insanely huge revolution in technology to have the infrastructure to go to mars.

If they do most of the grunt work with robots, well, we have just as far to go. Designing and implementing the robots to go to mars, build a habitat, and start collecting resources is a insanely daunting task.

Not impossible, but improbable in the next 50-75 years.

The moon is MUCH more feasible, and practical from a research, and development point of view. Many things could be learned, and the relatively short distance means if the robots/men are at risk, they may be able to be saved.



NASA doesn't have too good of a track record as of late, and they have a lot of kinks to work out in there new launch vehicle, and the ISS.



But the biggest thing is as Learyfan stated, we have far bigger problems atm then trying to go to mars.


Im not saying we need to stop space travel, i want NASA to continue the research in microgravity. Many invaluable technology has come from NASA. But the enormous task of mars, or even the moon just isnt practical atm.

Colonizing the moon would be pointless and far more difficult in many respects.

The moon isn't even a planet, its a satelite of the earth, so when the earth gets fucked and blows up, who knows what will happen to the moon?

Mars, although being very far away, is (relatively speaking) quite similar to the earth. There's even evidence that there was life there, and it has frozen water.

Well there's a theory that the Earth is going to get fucked in 2029 by an asteroid.
