Irregular mycellium growth?
    #1068331 - 11/20/02 12:00 AM (21 years, 4 months ago)

Okay, so this is my alligator's second batch of Treasure Coast. Also it's second time growing. Literally SIXTEEN days after he innoculated the 1/2 pt jars, they were out in the birthing chambers. Is that too fast?? Should I be worried about mold or something?? Also... my gator sliced up two cakes into cucumber style cuts about 1/4 in. thick into one casing. The other casing was two cakes crumbled up into an even layer. The bottom of the casings are about 1/2 in. deep and damp vermiculite..and the top layer is dry vermiculite. Two days after they were cased, they showed on an average of 10 spots of DENSE mycellia. I've read in many TEKs that it takes 7 days to see growth. What should I do?? Should I be happy about what's going on?? The spots are definately not mold. But I'm a little concerned for my gator's growth because the TEKs say other times.. etc etc.

Thanks

The bottom layer is wet. Top layer is dry. Hopefully I didn't fuck it up!

The bottom layer is not really necessary, the top layer should be moist to field capacity (moist to the point that if you squeezed it, just a few drops would drip out.)

nothing now, you may want to mist it cause dry verm won't be good in the long run. Just next time you make a casing, make sure you know what a casing's purpose is. Good luck.

Thanks. This happens to be my second time growing mushrooms and I'm very impressed by all that goes into the whole process that looks simple from a distance.. but is very complicated. My friend is borrowing my 50/50 tek so I was at a loss when I tried to guess which layers should be dry.. or wet.

Thank again for all your help

Sammy
