Slow Mycellium Growth Even With Incubator
    #1132745 - 12/11/02 03:30 PM (14 years, 6 months ago)

Hi, this is my first time growing and I have 12 1/2 pint jars which are taking forever, even with an incubator. None of them show signs of conatimnation, which is great but it's been three weeks and two days and I don't have one jar that's fully colonized yet. I keep the incubator about 80 degrees. Anyone have any ideas as to why it's so slow? Thanks for the help.

3 weeks is far to long incubating at 80 degrees.Did you let your jars cool off completely after PC`ing?. They can feel cool to the touch on the out side and the substrate can still be to hot. You may have killed the spores.

As long as theres myculium growth expanding just wait it out, and next time follow the tek exactly how its said.

Many factors play in to something like this. Spores, Cake Recipes, Sterility. If the mycelium is colonizing then wait it out. Some more information would be helpful though.

What percent of the jars are colonizing, of that how much is colonized, what recipe did you use to make your cakes?  C'mon man, we want to help, we really do, do your part, help us help you.  :smirk:

Ah, well I actually didn't wait until the jars were cool to the touch. I was sort of impatient with that part. Guess I ended up paying for it in spades. Anyways, all of the jars are colonizing with ones ranging from about 90% to about 30% colonized. I just used the recipe that was in the pf-tek guide. Anyhow, thanks for the respones, guess there's nothing to do but wait.

Take a couple of jars and loosen the lid a bit for air exchange. Sometimes CO2 builds up and the mycelium needs oxygen (a very small amount). If those two start growing after a few days, then you have found the problem. If not, and they get contaminated, you've only lost two jars.

Try bumping that incubator up to 85F.

Thats what I was going to suggest. My friends incubator is at 85d and i he gets fast growth. Last jars only took 8 days for full growth! they were cambo's.
