Dr. Reefer's controversial new business in Las Vegas

You've probably seen his billboards around town advertising with the promise to help you get legal. Since 2001 medical marijuana has been legal in Nevada and that has given rise to a controversial new business in town.

Dr. Reefer says he is not a doctor. Instead what Pierre Werner does is shepherd people through the medical marijuana license paperwork from state health division, sort of the DMV of pot.

To get the license you need a physician to sign off. Werner can help with that. He is a medical doctor in house, standing by for exams.

"You know there are a lot of people who are going to be suspicious of this, that it's for recreational purposes," asked Action News reporter Ben Deci.

"Oh yeah and I've got a big target on me. You see the billboard. I think my phone is tapped. I think I'm being followed. This is why I do not sell marijuana," said Werner.

Werner's made that mistake before. He went to prison for growing and selling pot to patients in California. It is something he dreams of doing someday, legally in Nevada.

"Las Vegas is a very big tourist town and a lot of people come here. And they want their medical marijuana," said Werner.

"I think the greatest thing is when patients call me and they tell me hey I got pulled over, I had some marijuana in car. The cop was gonna get. He 's ready to take me to jail I showed him my medical marijuana license he let me go. I'm on my way. And I'm calling you thanking you," explained Werner.

License or not, it is illegal to drive under the influence of marijuana. If police catch you doing that, you will go to jail.

I'm glad to see the legality opening up, but the con is obviously that it could cause even madicinal laws to be revoked

Though I certainly hope he's right, I wish he hadn't said this. I doubt the idea appeals to many non-smokers.
