Tuber oregonense
    #10646571 -

I should soon be getting a culture of Tuber oregonense. I was wondering if any of you have had experience inoculating trees with this species or any Tuber speices for that matter.

I am helping some truffle growers but they are rather secretive.  It would appear as if you take a mature truffle, mix it up into a slurry.  Dip the roots of trees, that have been grown in sterilized soil, into the slurry.

Most truffles grow ok in isolated culture, but don't fruit unless in symbiotic association in the wild. The slurry method above might work, but if I were to try inoculation, I would probably want to inoculate a pure culture onto seedlings, where the seeds were surface sterilized and sprouted in sterile agar (maybe with some charcoal or kaolin in the medium to reduce light to the roots). This would give the tuber culture a chance to get to know the tree before the happy couple gets transplanted into the complicated world outside the bubble... think of it as a honeymoon so they get to know each other intimately.
