Found these in some mulch near home! Think they are cyan. Some blue staining. No blue staining reaction when pinched, but I think that is because they are old. Taking spore print. Will be ready in 24 hours I hope.

sometimes it takes a while for the bruised areas to stain blue...sometimes up to 6 hours, or so i hear...it would be good to look it up, right now i can't remember where i read this...i've gone through all my mushroom books, so it must have been on the internet, but a reliable source, i'm sure...Mushrooms Demystified says that the stalk bruises more easily than the cap
just remember that it's safer to wait and be completely sure than to just go for it and end up in the hospital or dead...maybe it's just me, but that sure doesn't sound worth it

Yeah I agree thats why I am waiting for the spore print. The areas that I pinched to test these buggers have changed into a sorta blackish, blue. It would be pretty awesome if these are them, because of the convienence to my house, not to mention its in the East Bay San Francisco where they are suposedly not suppose to be.

Well that is definetly a good spore print color of cyans. Id guess that they are cyans, but, you should wait for others.

i dont mean to be a jerk but GET A BOOK! Try it for yourself. There is nothing more liberating than to be able to forige for ones own food and medicinals. However, in order to be safe, I would recomend a book. Would it not feel good to trust your own judgment better than joblow on the internet. I think that the internet is a great source for further research and "help" but to just throw up some pictures and say id help ... forget the help just type id please
I would recomend all that the rain promisses and more
(pocket size), mushrooms demystified and Psil. mushrooms of the world... oh and the national audo. field guide (pocket size) Anyhow get a book ... at least one .... and then you can at least complain about the only book you have and someone may want to help you a little more.

Angry I know its crazy!! I was thinking I was going to have to take a trip out to sf to find em! I was just doing my usual walk through this suburbian hell, when I noticed them. Hey I know this is dumb, but I am a total novice, how many should I take for my first trip? I dont have a scale so I cant weigh them out. Thanks.

Actually I have 6 Mycological books! All of the ones you mentioned. I have been mushrooming for over 10 years thanks! I pick delectably edible shrooms from my woods and consume them every year with great success. I just wanted to take an extra precaution and post the pictures here to let the veterans comfirm the ID. I actually have relied on myself to find out most of what I know about the edibles I find year after year. It's just that this is a great resource for further education so why not use it!

I would reccomend 7-12 mushrooms if those are cyans. That should give you a pretty decent trip (if mushrooms are "average" size). Nice find.

definetly look like cyans to me!

the bruising is visible in pics

lucky you and a nice find
you might want to try to snip them right at the bottom of the stem instead of taking the mulch/mycellium with it
