I've been thinking about doing this so I can eventually convince them to put me on disability so I don't have to work a day in my life. I have no experience in this area, though, and I too would welcome some advice.

It's kinda hard to just check yourself into a mental hospital. You have to threaten somebody or yourself, usually, or just be totally out of it mentally.
