damprid making my shroms 'wet'!!!
    #10512630 -

So i used a fan for ~24hrs, and the shrooms got pretty dry.  then i used damp-rid, just as described in this post:

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4747674#4747674

and i just looked at them, not even 10hrs later, and they're all getting gooey and 'wet' (not like full of water, just less dry than before) again!  the damprid definitelly did not touch the shrooms, though.

why would this happen?  are the shrooms garbage now or can i still save them?  should i keep them in there longer, or take them out and continue fan-drying..?  uggh...

same thing happened here.  I had them pretty dry after using a fan for 20 hours.

when i put them in a chamber with some silica. they came out kind of like soggy the next day.  i followed the exact design in MMGG but they still came out kinda of 'wet' like.

I think were in the same situation here

did you have them in an air tight container? all i can think of is that the damp rid may have bringing moisture into the container.

yeah, they were totally airtight.  they're back under a fan, but i'm not sure if i should trust them anymore, those strange dark colors are scaring me a bit...

It sounds like they were still too wet when you put them in the desiccant chamber.

I think you need to fan dry longer.

IME even when the outside of the shroom is dry as hell, it still may be too wet for the desiccant chamber.

My thoughts guys, invest in a dehydrator. One of the better investments i've made...

Are you useing a fan along with the damp-rid?

i have never seen the blueing or sweating after fan drying when I elevate the mushies over a fan in a closed box with the damp-rid.

It's all fake.  Nothing is real.  Where am I?

yeah, that's exactly what i did.  24hrs by a fan, they got pretty dry.  Then i put them in with damp-rid and 10 hrs later they got soggy and strangely discolored...

I'm telling you its because they were still to wet. I bet the shrooms that were close to the desiccant were less blue that the others.

They may have been blue on one side, and then less bluish on the side that was exposed to the desiccant.

Fan dry longer, then put them back in!!

I put mine in a cardboard box on top of a bunch of crumpled up news paper. Place a box fan on top and leave for 36 hrs just to insure total dryness. I mean the whole point in drying them is to store for later use; it confuses me why ppl are so concerned with drying them as fast as possible.

if you dry them fast they hold their size and still look nice and palatable, plus the sooner you can get them in an air tigh container the better. they loose their kik through oxidization. when you dry them too slowly they shrink up into gummy little boogers that no 1 wants to eat. thats why i use a food dehydrator 6 hrs and craker dry.

just a hint if you back off your fan from the box a little way they will dry faster.
