multiple stereo (synth) outputs to mixer: patchbay?
    #10277369 -

most mixers have only few stereo inputs. How do you route your equipment to your mixer when you have more stereo outputs from your equipment than your mixer has stereo inputs? Can you use a patchbay for this, or do you use another device?

No, you have to sum the signals, which a patchbay doesn't.

What I would do is use Y cables to separate the stereo signal into its components, and use mono channels and just pan them appropriately, if you have enough channels which I can't see why you wouldn't... what equipment are you using exactly?

I would suggest a patchbay. If you have enough gear that you are running into routing problems, a patchbay will do nothing but help.

This obviously won't let you use all the gear at once if your mixer doesnt support it, but it will allow you to re-route your cables on the fly in any manner you see fit.  It is a godsend for me, I am able to send audio from my decks into my mixer, interface, or effects boxes without having to crawl under my desk each time. Just make sure you use decent cables, but as far as patchbay's go most are built equally well.  I wouldn't necessarily buy the first and cheapest chinese one i found, but budget brands like behringer have been compared with dbx with the same attenuation, noise, etc.

The best solution is to get a better mixer with more inputs.

thanks for the suggestions:thumbup:

I only have room for a small mixer (for now a tapco mix100)
and I have enough in/outs, but I was wondering what I would need in case I get myself another synth/device

this could be what I'm looking for!
a rack mixer with 8 stereo inputs:thumbup:
I dow my EQ in cubase anyway so I don't need that on the mixer (or does EQ on mixer sound better..?)

Lately I've been thinking about getting a drumcomputer like the Korg ER-1 for example. seems like a fun and intuitive way to create and manipulate beats. maybe also good for live music making

will upload a pic of my 'studio' today!
