yeah...I'm kinda in the same boat myself here:

I was raised in Ohio, so I grew up saying 'pop' all the damn time...but then I moved out to Arizona when I was about 12 or so, and began saying 'soda' at that point (because, as mentioned earlier, it kinda is a west coast / east coast sorta thing)

and now that I'm back out in Ohio again, and am expected to switch back my colequialisms - I just can't bring myself to do it...because, quite frankly, I've equated that term to something I've long since matured out of

but you're also right as far as 'pop machine' allways being 'pop machine'
(I'm almost certain that one is pretty much universal right there)
