Who's playing guitar ??

I've been playing for 7 years myself, even tho I found I severly lack musical theory.

What are your favorite songs to play?

I'm learning some Opeth right now (song Wreath from Deliverance) and I love it, the technicality is awesome and is a good wrist and hand work-out.

Ever played in a gig? How did it went? I'm in need of musician gossip right now since my new band is growing well and steady :grin:

Hey there man.

Guitarist here... been playing around 6 years or so. I taught myself mostly, I'll be starting lessons through my college in the fall (music major)

I've played a couple gigs before, I actually have one this thursday. It'll be the most money I've ever made from a gig before  :rockman:

I like playing porcupine tree, I love to play the rain song by led zeppelin. I like playing some classical stuff too! I play all sorts of stuff, originals too.


Got any stuff recorded you can share?

I've been playing for about a year. Pretty amateur and I don't know that much, but I enjoy playing. In fact, I'm just having a cup of tea then I'm going to go shopping for my first real acoustic guitar (I have a crappy one and I feel that I know enough to warrant progression to a 'real' instrument).

I'm leaning towards takamine, based on what I've read, but I'm just gonna head down the shop and have a peruse, I 'have' (well, my overdraft allows for) £300 ($454.4), so I'm gonna go see what's about :grin:.

should be able to get a decent guitar with that amount.

See if they have any Oscar Schmidt acoustics or acoustic-electrics.
They are great guitars and an insanely reasonable price. I own one and I can't believe how well it plays and sounds for the price that I paid for it.

Going on about 12 or 13 years for bass, 6 for guitar.

my favorite songs to play are probably Anesthesia: Pulling Teeth.. and Five Magics

have played many, many gigs. always bring extra cords and batteries. keep an eye on your gear or keep it locked.

Yep, but it's an old video shot like 1 month after the band got started, shot with a digital photocamera so the sound is not amazing, but gives an idea of the style.



Also, we kicked out both singers... Not that they weren't good, but we weren't ready to write lyrics and have them do something in-jam, so we simply thanked them.

Been playing for about 7 years;

I personally don't know how to play any songs I didn't write.
I just write them, jam out, and hop around the fretboard like a sound playground

i've been 'playing,' for 9? years now, maybe ten.  i hurt my right thumb really really bad 2 years ago and couldn't hold a pick for a year, so i took that as an excuse to stop playing and do a lot of dope

now i'm back on my game, got offered a spot in a cover band gig yesterday but i'm not sure if i want it.  i've played a few gigs, been in 2 bands.  as shroomism said, always have extra batteries (or better yet actual plug-in power sources) and cords, and never leave a single thing unwatched or unlocked.

getting jacked sucks, and nothing like your wahwah pedal dying on stage during your star solo spot.  my personal favorite songs to play are probably Mouth for War(Pantera), Stoned & Drunk (BLS), and Holy Wars... (Megadeth)

the first two for the fun factor really, holy wars though.. jesus what a workout, that song is so epic in many ways.

I would agree. Holy wars is a fucking insane song to play. I always 'enjoyed' playing five magic more though.

Ya, you and Shroomism are absolutely right; we should ALWAYS keep an eye out for our gigbags and guitars in a live gig, that stuff is easy to steal and get away with.

Moonsorrow's guitarist got his ax stolen in a gig in Montreal recently :mad2:  Fucking untalented piece of shit thieves

They are everywhere. At every show. Watch your shit. Beware the gear thieves, it's real!
Shit Metallica wrote Fade to Black because they were that fucking depressed all their gear got stolen.
I've had numerous monster cables stolen.. a $1,000 bass and a $2,000 bass rig. someone took off with all our drummer's cymbals at a show once.
there is a special place in hell for these people

honestly I 'enjoy,' all megadeth songs on guitar.  there's really not one slack track that exists.  anything that makes me work and think even after mastering a song (IE, Holy Wars...) becomes my favorite thing to play.  I can really say that about any megadeth song

i know, when you try to be dave and sing it becomes impossible for me.  usually i can play and sing (i suck vocally, but I do it anyway :grin:) but holy wars is the one song I could never really do it on.  I would always play chop when I tried to add vocals, esp during verses.  playing cemetery gates' solo and all of holy wars was my driving force from age 11-17, I can say I achieved both during that time.  unfortunately since then I have slacked seriously.

like last night, I never thought I would have to do this.. I had to google the 5 pentatonic positions because I forgot one of them.  what the fuck is that?

dr00gs pwned me for too long, its all gravy though.  more motivation to get great again.

i know i can't, i'm struggling with basic exercises at speeds i used to LOL at.  dimebag is turning in his grave right now, last night I tried to play Regular People and failed miserably, that used to be my warm up song because it's so fucking fun.  my motivation right now is how shitty I sound and how good I know I really am.  my homie from my first band, the one I really made magic with, is coming back to town in June to veg out at his grandmas house and get tight with a certain band probably involving me.

can't wait.  i need a serious hobby and change in my life.
