Our little bastard isn't much for laps so it's hard to brush him. He doesn't shed much which is surprising because he has long hair. He cleans like a motherfuck though, and spits up a ton of furballs. We recently started trying to brush him more often. We use one of those furminator things, works pretty well.

The real challenge is gonna be bathing him. We've had him since October and haven't bathed him, but he's starting to turn brown so he needs it. He will not be happy.

You'll KNOW if you're allergic.  If I so much as look at a cat my eyes get lobster red and itchy, my nose clogs up solid, and the back of my throat itches so bad that I end up with a sore throat because I can't stop doing that funky nasal thing to scratch it.  You might have a slight allergy though if your eyes are getting puffy like that.

I love cats but I hate being allergic to them.  :frown:

OP, you should really ask yourself if this is a relationship you're 100% serious about pursuing. You're allergic to cats and you can't abide their hair.... It's going to be difficult to tolerate living with a cat person for you, and the problems will get under your skin and annoy the crap out of you. There's really nothing you can do about cat fur. You can brush, vacuum daily, dust, etc. but that shit gets EVERYWHERE. The only thing to do is shave the poor cat, and your girlfriend won't like that.

If you're not a cat person, think hard about dating one. If I had a child that was allergic to my cat, I would seriously consider giving the child up for adoption before I gave away the cat. If you eventually issue an ultimatum, you will not win (unless your new gf is a flake). BTW your allergies might get worse over time to the cat and you might find it difficult to even be in the same room as it.

i use one of these, its called a furminator.  I got the larger one, since i have a golden retriever too, but it works great on the cats, gets out ridiculous amounts of hair, and they like it too!

Thats one well-behaved cat! If I did that with either of the cats I gad the water would be red with blood, my blood.

She doesnt even try to scratch or bite, amazing!

If you wanted to wash one of my cats, Ketamine wouldve been a good precaution.

Odd thing is they had nothing against rain, even thunderstorms. Rain would be gushing down, wind blowing, thunder and lightning, and I'd get meowed at to open the door so they could go outside. A tomcat's territory. Serious business :smile:
