So my new ladyfriend/girlfriend/whatever has a cat that sheds like a motherfucker. I'm talking ridiculous amounts of fur everywhere. Every time I crash at her house I end up with cat fur all over me.

I just got home from her place and blew my nose... Cat fur in my fucking boogers. It's pretty ridiculous.

I know my parents brush their cat, but she never shedded too much to begin with. You think brushing the cat a few times a day would help? Or do you just have to keep a box of lint rollers around and vacuum all the time? I'm getting sick of almost getting to sleep just to have a cat hair fly into my nose.

Brushing is key. You can make your cat like it (well most cats anyway) so she gets a super petting and less furballs and you get rid of the hair.

I'm going to assume its an indoor cat :lol:

my cat isn't too bad since its outside most of the time,
+ stays on one chair (which is absolutely plastered with fur)

A low dose of Thallium will take care of the fur-shedding problem for the season, and a slightly higher dose gives a lasting solution. Ask your vet if he can give you Thallium for your girlfriends cat :thumbup:

Hmmm... That's what I was suspecting. Now to figure out how to go about being like "Uh babe, could you brush your cat? All that fur is annoying and kinda gross" without offending her. Maybe I'll buy her a brush and tell her I got her a present.

Get a good brush that's not gonna hurt the cat and will get the job done. She's might be matted if she's never been brushed. Don't pull.

If you bring the cat into the equation you should be ok,  "cat prolly doesn't like all her fur everywhere either. I can't imagine wearing a winter coat all year round."

shedding blade. looks a bit scary but does the job at getting the dander off their coat.

i dunno my cats don't really shed that much cause they're short hair..but now that it's coming up to warmer weather, i've had to use the shedding blade on one of the cats.

what kind of food does it eat.  Because i was feeding my cat cheapo brand food and he was shedding constantly even after brushing.  It was crazy.  And apparently cheap food makes the root of there hair follicle becomes weak and falls out.  Changed to like just a mid brand cat food(9 lives) and hes hasnt dropped a hair since.

No clue about the food, but I really have no say in the food because she's buying it's food.

I'm gonna get her one of those shedding blades and perhaps one of these:

My parents have one of those and it works damn well and that cat loves it. I think that would work better for removing an undercoat.

Oh yeah, one more question: how can you tell if you have cat allergies? Cats usually don't bother me, but when I leave her place I have a headache and my eyes are kinda puffy and nose is stopped up. Not sure if it's seasonal (she lives in a wooded/mountainous area) or if it's cat allergies.

usually if you have other allergies then you'll start to develop an allergy towards cat dander too. happened to my husband as well..to the point where he has also developed asthma

Nah, this one is special, it has 6 toes on both front paws. Killing machine. I'd love to see the kinds of weird animals that cat would catch if it were and outdoor cat.

Just brush it, seriously it works. Cats fur can get knotted underneath as well but you don't see it. Brushing it is good for their coat and it makes it look all nice and clean as well.

My cat loves to be brushed, she purs loudly and can't stop moving around. If I hold the brush up high she'll get on her 2 back legs and just stand that way trying to reach the brush to rub her neck against.

Most cats love to get brushed anyway, they don't put up resistance.

Quality food is important like someone said, Ive always fed my cat good food and you can tell by her fur alone. Shes 9 years and 4 months old and her teeth are still perfectly healthy and her fur coat is still full of colors and it shines and the softness of it is incredible. I used to hold my cat and pet her for hours when I used to roll! It felt SO good.

It also sounds to me like you got a slight allergy to the kitty judging from the effects you mentioned. Giving the cat a bath regularly will greatly reduce the dander and allergic reactions. This is usually not an easy task and you risk some serious bite wounds and scrathes which are more like deep cuts if it's got claws.

Those 3M lint rollers btw are a God send. I go to Costco and buy them in bulk cause they work very well and don't ruin material. I have leather couches and my cat loves to sleep on them and leaves behind her fur. Just a few quick rolls and the furs gone.
