i know of people that are in the public eye as far as this topic is concerned, but i dont think they would take on the roll as an authority figure. Dont you think this is all bullshit anyway?

The only reason I think it's bullshit is because it's a subject I've delved much deeper into recently with one of the best Mayanist anthropologists around right now IMO in a professor I'm taking a class with.  I don't weigh in such a heavy opinion on subjects I'm not familiar with.  So as such I have read many articles from many different sides on the subject.  There's guys like Eliade and Durkheim who just loved to romanticize stories from cultures they never even got a remote understanding of, there's Furst and Wasson who just wanted to go do the drugs wherever the went and missed the whole point of why they were doing them, and there's guys like Nyberg and de Borheygi who were essentially fact pickers/checkers from other authors.

i dont bother too much with the mayan aspect of it anymore. for me it was my first introduction to the topic, but it was only a small piece of a much bigger entity.
