I can never make them taste as good as Mexican restaurants do.

There must be some secret.

Maybe they use a sweetened lime juice, like Rose's.

I just don't know...

How are you making them?  Mexican restaurants usually just use a mainstream mix.


One of my favoirtes is to make what I call a Peppargarita, sub half and oz of tequila for half an oz of Absolute Peppar - its great.

I'm making them like, 50% Anejo Tequila, 25% Triple Sec, and 25% fresh lime juice.

Is that ratio all fucked up?

Yea, I think so.  Thats pretty strong - usually its about 20-25% tequila.

Also, anejos have a great taste for sipping, but often times I think they taste a little funky in a mixed drink.

no, that ratio is fine.  if you can afford it, spring for cointreau instead of triple sec.

what exactly is wrong with your margaritas?  not sweet enough?  add a little sprite and/or simple syrup.  fresh lime juice is definitely the way to go imho.

not in my experience.  2 parts tequila, 1 part cointreau, 1 part lime juice is the way i learned when i tended bar for a bit.

what u need is some jose quervo mix . some mix has a little alcohol in it some doesn't either will work.. about 3 parts mix less or more depending on taste. 1 part tequilla and 3/4 part grand marnier . the grand marnier is kinda $$ up there for just a little bottle , but it is what they put it at nice restraunts when u order top shelf.. little salt around the rimmm and ymmmmmm good shit..gotta have kinda decent tequilla too..atleast just try the jose quervo mix and tequilla its good.a little extra real lime juice won't hurt

at my sisters work they put oj in the margaritas it is pretty good actually... they also have some good fruit infused margaritas. mmm.

1. Use fresh squeezed lime juice
2. Use Cointreau
3.  Do NOT use Jose Cuervo.  That stuff is vile.  Use a silver tequila like Sauza or something a little pricier if you got the dough.

2 oz tequila
1 1/3 oz Cointreau
2/3 oz lime juice

I usually use the pre made mix with no liquor ,then add some good tequilia.
