Native peyote cutting
    #10068476 -

A couple years ago i was given a few buttons by a kind 'roadman' from the native american church. Along with these buttons he gave me a few dried "cuttings" as well as some native soil. He told me that i could use this to grow my own buttons for my own spiritual use.

I have successfully grown plants from cuttings but have no experience with growing cactus from cuttings. I have read some information about growing cacti from cuttings but it seems that most of them speak of rooting a cutting that has been recentl?y taken from a live specimen.

These "cuttings" that i have are about 2 years old and were actually given to me completely dry as in the pictures.

  My question is this.
Is it possible to root these dry cuttings? If so how would i go about doing this successfully? I was told by the native to just "stick in dirt and water" I would love for it to be as easy as this but i feel that there may be some details that i may be missing.

My main concern is that the cutting is too old and wont want to root itself even though it was given to me like this. It would be lovely to just stick it in the soil add water and watch it take root but that is hard to believe since they are so dry.

Any help is much appreciated:heart:

Peace

I'm sorry I offended you. He told you you could plant them? Those things are pretty ugly and probably not enough for any kind of dose.

no worries mankey

-yeah he even gave me a bag of desert soil with it . I would not have thought its possible to grow fried a dried cactus, but i didnt want to "insult" the guys knowledge at the time or anything lol.

I dont mind though as he gave me some beautiful & fresh pieces which i now regret drying out.

And as far as the "cuttings"  go im sure i can find a use for them

Those are probably the "cuttings" that he was telling you to plant

If you still have them, let the bottom callous over then stick it in the dirt. Dont water it until youre sure it shot out roots. Goodluck!

no no , i noticed the difference between the fresh whole buttons , and dried up pieces in a bag , along with a paper bag of "desert sand" ,
he mentioned that the ones in the bags would be good for cultivating.

I just dont understand why he told me they would grow from those dried up pieces  , i would think that the guy knows what hes talking about ........ weird

... and as far as eating them goes , i dont know what else i would do with them.    Throw them away?!?!lol

If there were any live tissue left, you could possibly rescue by in vitro, but other than that eating is you best option. But hey, not many people get to experience peyote, so your good :yesnod:

Sounds like he set you up with a joke, desert soil is shitty for cactus growth. Sounds like the typical indian humour.

Sorry for the double post.

Yeah man, every indian that I've known always ends a conversation with some sort of sarcastic remark that leaves me in bewilderment. Im always left wondering, is this guy joking, or is he serious?

LOL indian humour , i like .

now that i think of it they may have been "fresher" than i thought .. like i said its been two years and since he gave them to me i just kinda put them away.

I would doubt that these guys would just hand these sorta things out for no reason.

and yeah i will obviously not be throwing them away as i stated above , ill most likely powder them up and put it somewhere. Like i said i am thankful enough that i have this sacred plant in the first place so im not complaining.

hahaha this seems to be so true, as if they are being witty to preserve certain aspects of their "knowledge" or something...
