Cinematic Orchestra and such like

Having recently joined a new band (www.myspace.com/dalknezevic) I had the opportunity to introduce the guitarist to Cinematic Orchestra, one of my favourites. I aspire to be able to play drums as well as their drummer, Luke Flowers. He is phenomenal.

Anyway, I just watched the video to Man with a Movie Camera and All Things to All Men and just thought I'd a) introduce some more people to the band and b) remind those of you who have already heard them how great they are. So here we go:

Do you's know of any other bands in any way similar? jazz/downtempo blend

Only two I can think of are Xploding PlastiX and Skalpel. They're both really cool too.

Not impressive at all... I play drums myself- totally differant style though, to each their own.

Take the close bracket out of the link. The beats are just loops at the moment, so nothing especially interesting there though.

I was just about to make a post in search of similar bands to cinematic orchestra!!!

The first video you linked is different than the album version, called Work It! (Man with a Movie Camera) which I like better. This version doesn't have the sick drum breakdown in the middle..

The most similar band I've found is Bonobo (also on Ninja Tune). They're great, but not as good. This track is called Wayward Bob. Every CD they've released is solid.


Squarepusher - Squarepusher's Theme


Amon Tobin - Bridge


Medeski Martin - The first song is Shine It (happier) and then Mami Gato (darker) plays after. The second song starts at 5:06 if you want to skip to it.


I'd also appreciate any recommendations. Thanks Middleman, I'm gonna go check those out. EST is great! To anyone who hasn't heard them, check out Elevation of Love. I'm also gonna check out Xploding plastix, bc I do like Skalpel. Ninja Tune is somewhat hit or miss, but you should just check outall their bands out. The orchestra is definitely the best they've got!
