Aphex Twin - Squarepusher - Autechre
    #3454619 - 12/06/04 02:26 PM (13 years, 11 days ago)

Why are they always compared? I like all three of them, but in the end they all have a distinct sound. Am I crazy? Do I have an untrained ear?

The only thing that burns in Hell is the part of you that won't let go of life, your memories, your attachments. They burn them all away. But they're not punishing you, they're freeing your soul. So, if you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away, but if you've made your peace, then the devils are really angels, freeing you from the earth...

Yeah they're all on the same label. I think they have similar tracks, but overall they have distinct sounds.

Yeah, they are often grouped together.
Sometimes with u-Ziq and Boards of Canada, too.

They're from sort of the same pool of IDM, and someone who likes 1 is bound to like them all. They've all got that out-there experimental refined electronic production that's so often found on Warp.

Since their on Warp, they often play shows together too.

Their best IMO
Aphex Twin - Drukqs
Squarepusher - Ultravisitor
Autechre - LP5

they have releases together too. at least aphex and squarepusher.

IDM is the lamest label for musical genre ever, the artists refuse to use the labeling and its better I think if it wasnt used either.

That's a good point, I only mention because that's what people at least have heard, as far as a 'label'. But I guess I'm just perpetuating it :smirk:

Intelligent Dance Music is so high and mighty, and how could you dance to Aphex anyways? lol

i dance to aphex at least once a week...

normally they are compared because they came on to the  european music scen at roughly the same time...  and normally if one likes one of them, its obligitory to like them all...

i like aphex much, and squrepusher, autechre is good, but i dont listen to them as much.

go get some plastikman

best aphex: i care because you do
best squarepushe: maximum priest

you have to admit though... they all have one sound in common..

the high pitched percussion noise that's repeated over and over again that sounds like a light machine gun...

I like Aphex.. what I've heard from squarepusher is pretty good.. is that what they call "glitch-core" or something? And I have Autechre- Tri Repetae++..but I just can't get into it. It's too... I don't know.. machine like for me.

i agree on the autechre review... cant get into it enough.

ive never heard the term glitch core, i always just called it "good electronic music"

you would like bogdan raczyzki, he does some snare rushing in his music but its mostle REALLY GOOD music.

his style deviates from that of aphex twin and autechre widely, so the comparison is only in the fact that they are all really good on there own levels.

get samurai math beats.

Have you heard Chiastic Slide by Autechre? I loveeee that album. I love LP5 too, but I think the former is "better" I guess.

I advise the album incunabula. you will find a different side of autechre there.

they all come from the same scene/location/time period (late 80s/early 90s) (UK) (post-rave scene) (warp/skam/rephlex records) (etc)

well, yeah...they call it techno for a reason.
just visualize the agony of baby
machines of artificial intelligence
clawing and thinking
and stuck
and haywire.
it's just a visual picture really.
forget about songs
and verse-chorus-verse and all that boring shit.
it's technological sound
connecting with the ancient past
thru physiological compatible rhythms.
