Shaggy Parasol?

Habitat: backyard, growing from leaf litter, dirt.
Gills: white
Stem: white turning brown near lower stipe and base.
Cap: white/brown with veil remnants.
Spore print color: assumed to be white, no print taken
Bruising: No color change was observed.
Location: Picked in north western USA

looks like em to me

you should notice a definite color change when you slice into it with a knife  :wink:...

definatly took on a brown color when cut in two.

tried my girls dad cut them up before the print could be made.:foreheadslap: I think thats what they are but ive never picked these before. He wants to eat them if they are.

Those are one of the most scrumtious mushrooms out there in my opinion.  I like to dice them up small, saute them in a wee bit of salted butter (and garlic powder if you like), and put them on fresh bread or toast.  MMMMMMMMMMMM

Its C. rachodes due to the double annulus and the non-abrupt base.  This is the rarer shaggy parasol; C. brunneum is more common in CA.

Parasols are great edibles. We get loads of them here in Germany where I live. The larger caps can be sliced up, coated with breadcrumbs and fried in a pan. Fingerlicking good. :drooling:
