Need a womans advice

Ladies, I can't say that I'm one to know what's going on in there, or even try to understand it, but I need some advice.

A little background: My girlfriend of 4 months, of which is perfect for me and vice verse, to the point of not even caring about getting pregnant because we knew it would work out (stupid mistake?) got a text tonight..

We'll call him "Matt", because it's easier than SWIH, and that's his real name.

We were laying down getting ready to sleep and she got a text. She always lets me hold her phone for her and I never bother reading her texts because I saw no point in it, I'll go to her inbox once in a while and look when she's right there, she does the same. We respect each others privacy.

Tonight she got a text from Matt, and this is how the conversation went:

Me: Laying behind her, seeing her close her phone said "what was that about?"
Her: Nothing
Me: No, really, who was it?
Her: Just an old boyfriend
Me: ... Why did he say that? Do you care if I say "huh"?
Her: I don't know, he sends me texts like that when he finds out that I have a boyfriend to try to get us to break up. I don't want you to reply because it will get stuff started.
Me: Why does he do that?
Her: I don't know, he's just power hungry and obsessive like that.
Me: So why do you have him in your phone?
Her: Because he's a friend, and he's in iraq right now in the military
Me: Why can't I just reply with a simple "huh" to see what he says?
Her: I said I don't want to get anything started
Me: When did you date him?
Her: Like 5 years ago
Me: "oh." laying there for a minute.. she goes to sleep, I whisper I've gotta go now, good night. and left.

Then she sent a text saying I know you're mad, I deleted his number from my phone.

Didn't reply

She sent another saying I wanted to talk before you left but you seemed mad so I just let it go.


Thoughts? I'm going to give her another chance because I don't even know if she was telling the truth, and she may have been.

Thoughts from a woman's perspective? I'm mainly interested in why she wouldn't even let me text him back to say "huh" just to see what his reply was?

To give her the benefit of the doubt, even if something was going on with Matt, it may have happened before you were involved (since you have only been with her 4 months).

She said she deleted his number it sucks, but what more could she do?  The question is whether YOU are going to get over it.

Dude if he was in iraq his cell most likely wouldn't work (known a few people over there)..... If she lets him send her texts and shit like that then find a new girlfriend because if she really was all perfect like you said then this would've come up before or she would've replied "cut the shit". Plus if she doesn't care about getting prego chances are the other dude doesn't like using condoms and she knows she can pawn it off on you if it does happen.

even though the dude's cell phone probably doesn't work in iraq, he can still get on the internet and text people using AIM or something like that. I have a friend over there that does that.
