I've been thinking about going on after my B.S in psyc to a community college (or maybe even online) to get an associates, instead of my original plan of doing a masters. Probably network administration or other various information technology fields that are in high demand and decent pay. Anyone have any thoughts/experience with this plan or field of work?

Yes.

Network administrators will always be needed.

I'm working in the field right now while finishing up my degree. I love it.

After I finish I want to move to Europe and do consulting.

It is, in my opinion, a waste if you are going merely to get a job when you graduate. The world is going to be a very different place in the coming years, I think. Spending time learning important and interesting things is never a waste, whether done independently or in a school setting...

QFT. and a lot of subjects just aren't conducive to non-institutional learning (e.g., sciences requiring lots of expensive equipment, humanities requiring other people reading the same material at the same time for discussions, etc).

personally, after taking too many years off, i'm getting nearly finished with my undergraduate education and couldn't be happier with the time & money i've spent. while i already have solid job prospects (working in natural language processing/computational linguistics) i'm definitely set on going to get a dual phd (philosophy & linguistics) before seriously thinking about industry vs academia (beyond continuing to work part-time to pay the bills)

If school wasn't free for me, i wouldn't have gone.

I think the life experience gained is invaluable, and for me personally was necessary to gain the mindstate required to enter the working world.

I did a lot of growing up, and i was exposed to a lot of different things.  I have studied fields that would qualify as a valuable use of college tuition, and some that aren't.. but a few classes i took were purely out of interest.
