I look at college as more time I get to spend not having to worry about the real world.

Yup, my dad pays for four years of school. So what?

I plan on becoming a teacher. I understand some areas are laying off tons of teachers, but a lot of cities are always looking. Worst comes to worst I can change my plan (high school gym) and go teach in an elementary school. They are ALWAYS looking for male teachers.

Lol, what's a bigger waste of time:  4 years of college and leaving with a piece of paper, or 2years of college and leaving with nothin? :shrug:


I put in my 4 years, I got my piece of paper, graduated with honors & a bunch of scholarships/extra curriculars....

Do I have a job?  nope.
Am I looking for a job?  yep.
Am I in better shape finding a desirable job than someone without a college degree? yep.

I graduate in May with an electro-mechanical engineering degree. I'm seriously considering a job repairing cellphones for maybe $10/hr.

The company has plenty of positions I could move up to in a relatively short time.

It is, in my opinion, a waste if you are going merely to get a job when you graduate. The world is going to be a very different place in the coming years, I think. Spending time learning important and interesting things is never a waste, whether done independently or in a school setting...

That's the ticket. If you are going to school with some vague promise of earning lots of money after its all over your in the wrong game. Education is a journey not a destination. (Though on that note my degree got me a well paying job and provided a lot of experience and opportunities I would never have been able to have other whys)

Well, since I picked a career that is still growing despite the recession - teaching - I expect to get a very good job with entry-level salary at 40,000 a year. w00t. I'm so happy I made the right decision about what kind of field to major in. Plus, I have a double major, so if I ever want to quit teaching and go to law school or apply for a job in the business world, I'm solid.

College is not a waste of time - it's only a waste if you get your degree in something inflexible or unmarketable.
