Anyone go their ? or has anyone lived in humboldt county?

whats your take on the place?

too rainy and humid, but there r shrooms, the mountains arent too far though which is good

I lived there all of last year.. for like 15 months I think.

I don't know, obviously the area itself is great.  A hikers dream to live in teh middle of the redwoods.  On the other hand.. there's a lot of hick tweakers, the worst kinds of stoners, and the liberals there aren't normal liberals, they're a lot of the wacko, burnt out on acid tinfoil liberals.

So you know, I can still work in that kind of environment since that's pretty normalish for most of the people I know, but if that turns you off, then I'd forget about it.

Also, it's pretty cold and rainy all year to someone like me who's lived in southern cal, the bay area, and the central valley all his life.  That won't be an issue to most people, but it was a small one for me.

PS: there are like 10 other threads with people wanting to move out there in that I've responded to.  There's a large influx of out of area people there.

I doubt you'll be able to find a job, so I hope you plan to go to HSU or College of the Redwoods.  If you think you have skills and can get a job anyways (like me), then you should look before moving, because it was bad there before the economy collapsed, which was right after I moved away.

What is there for work in Humboldt? Besides farming pot? Obviously the economy isnt helping, but once it picks up, is there a decent job a communication major could get?

Ferris, what prompted you to move out there in the first place? Were you able to find a job or is that why you moved on?

Just curious - I've often thought about driving north just to check it out  :bigblunt:

Good wine and weed.  Not much in the way of economic opportunity beyond weed or lower level service industry type jobs.  There is defiantly a portion of the population that you could categorize as redneck and there is also an offshoot of this click that could be described as tweaker redneck.  Depending on what town you go to there will be alot of people there from other regions who are simply living, smoking, bumming, etc...One thing that surprised me was the number of homeless wanderers begging money.  The locals (see rednecks and tweaker rednecks)despise the burnout migration that has ended in their towns.  From my perspective it is a pleasant place to be especially in contrast to my Midwestern roots, however it isn't for everyone and there is certainly a sinister reality that permeates the population here.  The economy is bad and the only revenue available is through illegal enterprises, this in my opinion contributes both to the underlying sense of doom and a certain fuck it attitude.  It should also be noted that there are alot of radical backwoods churches that give any crooked bible belt southern baptist church a run for its money when it comes to ludicrous bullshit spewing.

No it IS most certainly the pot paradise everyone thinks it is, kind is easy to find if not as cheap as it should be. There is some awesome nature too, but the economy is very weed-centric and employment opportunities are very limited.

Can you visit?

I'm not from the area but it actually intrigues me more and more as you guys talk about it.

Are there any areas that people drive through or are more "touristy" than others? Do you guys have any recommendations for a foreigner that might drive through?
