Dude, his OOC real life self is the one that is sick, not his fucking in game character.  It is an OOC issue which would be addressed in an OOC way.

OOC TOPIC = TALK ABOUT IT OOC.

Chatting about an OOC topic in character is weird. 

Although I'm sure he appreciated your good-tidings whether they were IC or OOC so don't fret.

to the OP

man, yes it is a video game, but all the people you play with are actual real people, not NPC's man.  imo you should have gone out of character.

i have been an MMO player for the better part of 5 years and met several very cool people i still keep in touch with through a video game.  i mean you spend time with these people like real life friends so why not treat them like one?  some of the people i have played with have had kids, lost parents (one of the guys i played with actually lost both his parents in the 9/11 twin tower incident) dogs, had surgeries, stomach stapling, etc etc, we talked about real life things because we are real people.

i am sure that the dude you were playing with knows that you care, but i mean, don't feel weird about extending your care for another human being even if you just know them through a video game/internet.

I've been meaning to add to the thread but it never got to it. The surgery was a success and he is recovering fine.
