Return your library books.....or else
    #9681298 -

INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (AP) — An Iowa woman has been arrested after police said she failed to return a library book.

Shelly Koontz, 39, was arrested Thursday night on a fifth-degree theft charge. She is accused of keeping "The Freedom Writers Diary," which she checked out from the public library in nearby Jesup in April.

Police say the book — which is about a high school teacher's effort to inspire students to write — is valued at $13.95.

I refuse to go to another library ever again. When i was 12 someone stole my bike from the library, so i am traumatized.

That story doesnt make any sense, you cant be placed under arrest for a non felony charge without having an officer witness the crime.

....errr at least that's my understanding of it, am I wong?

i went to check out a book the other day and was told i owed over 100 dollars.  my ex had checked out 5 books with my card and never took them back.  i bolted without saying much, got the books back, put them in the night drop, and was charged 5 dollars the next time i visited.

I really don't understand the whole concept of a late fee at the library, all it does is encourage people to not return books.

I'm glad that don't have that bullshit around here.

Thats the reason I didn't return it... cause I forgot about it for a couple of weeks and then the fees started to build up. So I've still got it :awesome:.

As someone who used to work at a library, this is the best way to get charges deleted.

Go to the library, go put the book back on the shelf, go to the desk and say you returned the book a long, long time ago. They'll look into it, find the book on the shelf, and get rid of your fines.

I always pay my fines in pennies just to spite them.
