yellow contamination........ not sure if it is yellow mold

OK,

2 trays of pan cyan cull rye spawned to cowdung and straw

first 2 trays I had more dung and they where slow.

2 more trays I used more straw in the mix.
They where faster, untill today I noticed contamination.

I have seen similar mold fungus on leaf litter in a closed moist environment with poor FAE(insect tanks)

Also in my 2 infected trays it seems to concentrate mainly on a few small patches of straw on the surface of the tray.

It looks like small yellow (pinpoint) dots with a few millimeters of space in between them. To small to make a picture. They start out yellow and will stay that way.

Anybody an idea about it, is it yellow mold or something else

Sounds like yeast.  A picture would help, or search this forum for pictures of yeast contamination.

picture don't know if I can get a very clear shot..
I also isolated the the 2 trays, don't want to throw em out before I know what it is and if it progresses somewhat more I might be able to get a decent pic.

It's not a huge yellow patch or something, the contam itself looks kinda bright yellow and dry.
Because it is so damn small and not packed very dense, it looks like the yellow spots sit on a stem? But that might be me thinking that.. I'm looking trough a semi transparent lid

Will do some more searches here also on yeast
have been surfing the net for anything similar, no success yet


As i think back.. I have seen it before, not in mycelium spawn or rye but in the reptile/insect hobby.
It can be found in the leaf litter but in a bug tank you will always have a few dead insects.
it can be prey items such as crickets, but also dead young ones.
these dead bugs will get these yellow spots

No not yeast...

at least it doesn't look like your pic.

I know it's crappy but I used paint to clarify my description.

The brown thing should be a piece of straw. the yello dots the fungus? colour of the yellow dots in real life is quite similar only a little more dark and pale

ok.... normally I'd consider yeast a good thing, as long as it is used for brewing beer....


Crap, I know yeast to be more or less a big sour smelling brownish blob. I worked at a brewery therefor.
Probably that's why I was that " confident " it couldn't be yeast.

Never thought it could look that " dry",  tossed them both, as an extra both trays got infected with cobweb in isolation, making it impossible to take a picture of the yeast infection.

Guess something went wrong with this second batch?
Both trays were growing way faster then the first batch and both got the contam in a later stadium?
PC step etc was the same as I normally use /
