if there were a total of 4 (human) inhabited planets all in close proximity, 2 would have joined forces to enslave the other two. then, of the 2 left, the one with the larger amount of oil would've been taken over by the bush administration.

Maybe we wouldnt be so violent if we knew there were other people out there.

Maybe religious fanaticism would have never set in.

Our government wouldn't let us know that life existed on those planets, so it wouldn't even be an issue.

I can imagine it now:Inter planetary warfare. Firing rockets between planets. You know that would be the case!

The Great Wall of China is visible from the moon. (I BELIEVE with the naked eye, might need a telescope)

Eventually we'd spot something they made.

Someday soon we will have the technology to see nearby exoplanets, and possibly even see evidence of intelligent life.  I think about that day every day.  I look up at the night sky and wonder how many eyes are looking back down at me.  The fact is, the space-age hasn't really begun yet.  It will though, in our lifetimes.

Rather than make my own thread about this I'll ask it here since it's related.

If the moon were to collide with Earth, and you were at ground zero, what would it be like?  I mean they're both spheres, but would it be so big that it'd be like a mountain just squashing you?  How fast would it be?  It just seems so strange; the idea of being squashed by the moon.

I'll add that to the ways I want to die list. I've got quite a few now.

Doubtful.  Assuming, as I interpreted this thread, that we (earth) had just determined there was life on other orbiting planets.  As events on earth have told, we (earth governments) would obviously assess them as an enemy threat and immediately attack them, leading to instantaneous inter-planetary war.

We'd probably also tell the (earth) world that these planets were a "terrorist" threat since that is the current buzz word that seems to draw instant, brainless (brainwashed) populus support whenever the word is even mentioned.

I totally agree man! Were intelligent here on Earth but were nothing in space, we've gotten no where in space really.

How would it affect us? I think it would be like someone said, interplanetary warfare which would be SWEEET!! Somnething a little like star wars!

There exists one lie that is the absolute worst. A lie that has successfully infiltrated many of the Western governments. This lie is Christianity, and it must be fought in every way, shape and form. Burn the churches and kill the priests. The abomination that is Christianity must be wiped from this Earth.

The great wall is visible from low earth orbit. You can't see it from the moon. You can barely even make out the continents when viewing the Earth from the moon.  All you can really see is clouds and water.

I stand corrected. My bad.

However throw a telescope into play....

your post reminded me of a short story in the book The Illustrated Man (which is a book of loosely related short stories) now its been forever since I read the book, but the gist of the story is: a cosmonaut travels through space to all the other intelligent life-inhabited planets, chasing Jesus, who, apparently, travels from planet to planet spreading Christianity. The cosmonaut can never catch Jesus tho, he always just misses him.

in any event, its a good book.

Pictures like that frighten me sometimes. We are but a spec in a  infinite universe. Seemingly alone although for one second I don't believe it. There is nothing more I'd love than to know what's out there. What do ye think the next big advancement will be with space travel?
