Becoming an Irish Citizen

So last night after talking with a European friend about our family lines, I was informed that since my grandpa was born in Ireland, I can become a citizen.  Has anyone here been through the process.. and if so how hard was it?  I would be able to get a job or a place to live anywhere in the EU, so I feel this could be a very good thing.  Any input is appreciated.

yes if it is possible do it up, i,m sure there r immigration attorney,s who facilitate these situations
i,ve looked into but my grandparents were either born in canada or the states, even though 2 of them were of hardcore irish heritage, sucks for me
i guess u could get dual citizenship.. keep me informed on the process if u got through with it

My grandma was born there and I'm in the process of doing the same thing.  My mom is in charge of gathering the necessary documents from my grandma and she's being super slow at the moment.  I'm not invovled in the process but I believe she's trying to get a copy of a birth cert from my grandma.  That, a new picture, and a hefty fee (a couple to a few hundred) is what it takes.

its a quality place but one of the things you must realise is there are only on average 60 rain free days per year although by international standards its still quite a free country

awesome... thanks for that link.  I visited Ireland two years ago, and it was probably the most beautiful place I have ever been, even in the rain.  Becoming a citizen doesn't seem like it's going to be that huge of a process.  I think I will try and get the ball rolling once i settle into the next semester of school. 

Anyone know if theres any negatives attached to Irish citizenship... such as taxes?

I'm Irish but my mother holds an English passport as she was born there even though with two Irish parents. This entitles me to an English passport if I so chose. The process would be much easier if you had an Irish passport from your grandpa that you could use

In regards to the working anywhere in the EU part, it is easy to an extent, but many place require a shitload of paperwork etc. Every country varies. The borders are practically 'open' so you can move around fairly easy but going somewhere permanantly or to work is a different matter.

Basically what im trying to say is that being a EU citizen will provide you with the same kind of rights anywhere in the EU (be it the UK or Eastern European countries) but moving and working somewhere permanantly is just about the same as anywhere else in the world.
