potential dmt recrystalization error

hello friends.  a migrant worker who bartered passage into the country in exchange for a lifetime of servitude in a  clandestine chemistry lab was recrystalizing some dmt.  a small pot of water was brought to a boil, then the gas stove turned off.  after that was added a dmt/naptha mixture while the water cooled.  it seemed however that the water hadnt been given enough time to return to a decent temperature.  is it possible that some of the dmt was destroyed by the heat?  it did form th is tiny, black almost fur- or lint-like substance inside the glass.  is there a general rule of thumb for how warm the water should be if it is possible this particular worker scorched it?  as always, thank you guys so much

Could you describe what happened in more detail? Particularly what your migrant worker's procedure was?

You say that a dmt/naphtha mixture was added while the water cooled.... do you mean directly poured into the water? Because DMT recrystallization doesn't involve any direct contact with water.  The water is used as a heat bath (a glass container of naphta is immersed in the water to heat the naphtha, then DMT is dissolved in the hot naphtha.

DMT can vaporize at high temperatures, but it shouldn't form a black material.

the dmt/solvent was not poured into the water.  there was a very shallow pool of water in the pot which was brought to a boil.  as the water was cooling another container with the dmt/solvent was put in the pot to sit on the water.  ther was no direct contact with the water.  the heated container has been in the freezer over night so i gu ess my migrant worker shall find out in a few minutes how it all worked out.  it was the weirdest th ing though - it was this black lint like substance that was deffinately NOT in the container before dunking

I'm not sure what the black lint might have been, but it should have been removed while the naphtha was hot. That's one of the ways recrystallization works to purify the stuff: Things which aren't soluble while the DMT is can be removed by filtration, pipetting, or careful decanting.
