How do I know when A strain sclerotia is done forming? My cat's Philosophers bags have been fully colonized on the outside for about 10 days, but how will he know when the inside is done?

you're wanting to fruit it right? if that's the case then a week more should do it, for safety's sake, although if you mixed up the colonised/uncolonised bits during colonisation then it's a good bet that if the outside is colonised, so is the inside...

You can bury the fresh individual sclerotia in casing for fruits but the only reason to do this is for spores. You will lose mass in the transition from sclerotia to mushrooms. Just eat the sclerotia. You don't need to selectively produce sclerotia to get mushrooms anyway. Just case a fully colonized substrate like grass seed. Sclerotia will form in the casing and mushrooms should soon follow.
You can case a fully colonized and mature Philosopher's bag right in the bag. Just cut the top off the bag 1-2 inches above the substrate and add a thin layer of casing right in the bag. Place in your fruiting chamber and cross your fingers. Mexicana is more sensitive to environmental quality and success is not assured in a marginal setup. It would be a shame to waste a full bag of sclerotia and 3 months of time for the chance at a few mushrooms.

what is sclerotia?
it's a dense fiberous growth in the substrate. I think it kind of looks like tumors. Formation depends on substrate used. They exist because in nature they can survive fire or cold or whatever better than the rest myc. growth. They have about the same potency by weight but weigh more for the amount of area they occupy. They can be grown invitro.
That's just a primer.
NOW go do a search you soulless mother fucking newbik pubic goat licker. j/k
