That's still different from suicide because they are directly causing grief to the other person.

Motivation aside, suicide still hurts others.  If I drive drunk, I'm not purposely intending to hurt others, and yet it's rather likely that such an act will do so.  Consequently, driving drunk is illegal.  The same argument goes for suicide: it might not be your intention to hurt others, but your actions will do so unless your entire family is dead and you have no friends whatsoever.

Agian, driving drunk has the possibility of killing someone or hurting them physically, suicide does not.

suicide is a major sin though

yes

It saddens me seeing so much discrimination against Christians these days.

I don't discriminate against Christians for their beliefs, but at the same time, I can't agree with a government based on them. Our liberal democracy has put itself in quite a pickle here.

Our country was founded on Christian values and that's the way it should remain.

Because it's an ancient belief, we're smarter than that now.  I mean I feel like we're little children believing in fairy tales and shit.

You're not using common sense :nonono:

This isn't true at all. A good deal of our founding fathers were atheists. I realize that I cannot debate with you about religion, because it's by nature, absurd. That being so, we cannot base the country's laws and regulations on absurdity and personal revelation...obviously.

you should really think rationally about what you believe in.  You use science every day of your life, computers, internet, automobile, your house, your healthcare.  But when you think about where we come from you don't think about science you think it's buy an invisible man in the sky.

It just doesn't make any sense.  This isn't alice in wonderland.

"logic" and "science" is all Satan's work. Trying to create pagans.

So you think the computer you are using right now is one of "Satan's" tools?? Come on man, get a grip, for the sake of humanity!

Your computer comes from the result of the scientific method.

I think there is a great deal of worth in the irrational, Dionysian aspects of life. I'm an atheist also, but I can't help but feel that science is merely another overpowering ideology to adhere to in attempts to grasp, or explain in totality, the ways of the universe. Feyerabend wrote a really provoking essay about this in "Scientific Revolutions".

Absolutely, but it's going to be a slow process.  The other day I gave a speech to my Communications class about how assisted suicide should be made available to everyone (basically the same argument from my 'Assisted Suicide' thread) and it damn near started a riot.

Non-religious transcendence, for example. Sexuality, aspects of art, dreams, etc.

The intent of a law is to decrease suffering and pain in people's lives.  This is why we outlaw murder, torture, and sadistic acts.

A suicide relieves the individual of suffering, but propagates it to countless others.  By your logic we should legalize torture because it makes the torturer happy.

this is obviously false on its face, because the law you propose infact prolongs suffering and pain.

your not only making mortally ill people suffer out there lives, but potentially making their family members suffer.  a true loving family member would likely want their relatives wishes to be carried out, even if this is death

Torture is involuntary, so were talking about something wholly different and completely irrelevant.  this is a forceful act against anothers will.

assisted suicide is consensual, and not an forceful act of aggression.

You never answerered me, so i'll ask again

Where do you get the authority to control others' body's?

well yeah those things are a normal part of human life.

I understand why some grown adults can still think like a child about the subject of how we got here.  But they need to come to their senses about it or keep it to themselvs because it's causing other people grief and I'm sick and tierd of it.

Like you said "we cannot base the country's laws and regulations on absurdity and personal revelation"
