Galaxy Creation Machine - GCM

The GCM can make different spiral galaxies complete with gas and dust. The galactic colours change slowly and you can adjust the size and spread between the spiral arms.

I made it out of wood, a motor, a coloured disc, halogen light, cotton, LED light, coat hanger, and bundle of optical fiber...

It looks much cooler in real life, but here's a little taste....



Here is another galaxy with a prominent cloud of gas and dust at it's core...

No video yet, but maybe soon...

If you want to make one of your own, you can take apart one of those fiber optic lamps...

Then make some sort of base for it, and if you want it to change colours you can get a clear plastic disc and paint transparent colours on it, attach this disc to a slow moving motor and filter your light source through it.

Now all you need to do is cut out a spiral template (i cut mine out of wood). Mine is based on the spiral arms of the Milky Way Galaxy. Then feed the fibers through the cut outs that you've made and play around with it until you get the shape you want. Then you can use cotton for interstellar medium, and use a small LED on a stand to illuminate it if you wish...


I'll get a full photo of it when i get home from school, it'll explain everything more clearly.
