garage band or mpc (drum machine)??

so ive been using the music application fruit loops and i want to get something new and different. im mostly into making hip-hop beats so i was thinking either garage band remix tools or an mpc. what do you guys think?

if youre looking for loop based creation, Acid is a pretty solid program.

Above all (if you have a mac) I'd recommend Logic Studio 8, I've been doing lots of recording with that over the past year or so

MPC's are pretty expensive. You can do a lot more with software these days, but even then I'd consider an MPD because it is nice to have those pads begging you to touch them

ive been using acid and a program called mixcraft (which is basically a garage band clone) I would say that acid is the best software available, though if you are serious i would get some decent hardware just so youre not confined to prerecorded loops.

I disagree with you a bit. The talented musicians can survive on point and click. It's not glamorous and not recommended, but it is possible to create great things with this. I personally have a 61-key midi semi-weighted keyboard (really slim and compact) with 8 knobs and a few faders as well as an mpd24.

Even though my hardware might be entry level, I can do some seriously amazing and professional things with them because I have a good sound card and I have fast computer with great software.

If cost isn't really a factor get the MPC, otherwise I'd go software + MPD/Trigger Finger.
