Choosing a college major
    #9301005 -

Should I play to my strengths and do something I enjoy or major in something that will just make me more money?  A combo would be ideal, but I'm not sure where that leaves me.

What majors would you be strong at and enjoy?

What majors do you think would make you more money?

I'd rather have less money but enjoying what I'm doing.  Money does not always bring happiness.

Thanks for the advice people.

Do something you like, be good at it, and then the money will come.

that made a lot of sense.  sometimes I fear playing to my strengths (english) or what I enjoy (anthropology) because of parental influences that are all about the money.

I choose a low paying major too, just because I like it.

English and anthropology go very well together actually, like math and physics. If you are very good at writing but pursue anthropology, you are already ahead.

If you are doing a humanities major, keep in mind the job field is usually saturated. Keep at the top and in close contact with your professors, because they will hook you up with jobs and internships. Good luck!

I read these threads and realize how lucky I am.  I enjoyed science so I went into a science major, landed a job I love doing, and then moved into a high paying job with low stress.

A complete win-win.

I am having this problem in college. absolutely no clue what I want to do. Honestly I feel that I would be happy with any job that gives good pay and not too many hours, but I have an interest to work on tv shows or films. or to do something related to indie music, but right now the college I am in offers nothing in those fields.............

The confusions of my life................................ any body have advice for me?

College is a waste of time. Trade school is where the money is. Be a technician at something and specialize is key.

yeah fuck money, spend $20k + on an education that will never make you your money back and never get you a job! then you can spend years and years paying off the debt that you accumulate on the same salary you would've made w/o school.

unless you want to be a teacher, dont waste time getting a degree in English, or History, or anything like that. Psychology is a waste of time, too, unless you already have a good business plan to open your own practice. whatever degree you go for, make sure its a B of S, Art degrees are worthless. i've had many UT graduates work for me knocking doors for 100% commission b/c their degree couldnt get them a better job. they might have gone to college for something they love, but guess what? they still have to work a job they hate to pay the bills. the only difference is, they have no job security of any kind.

either go to college for drug connects and pussy, or go to make money. pull off both if you can.

I have given thought to being an English teacher - I like the thought of a steady daily schedule and lots of time off for holidays and summer vaca

then go for it, teaching is a good profession, its recession proof, its decent money, and like you said, lots of time off. my parents are teachers, they do well and they teach elementary students.

just make sure that whatever major you go for, you have a realistic plan on how that major is going to make you money for the rest of your life. im not a money hungry person, but i like the idea of having a solid job that makes me enough to have a house and a car while i support my drug habits in comfort

Just make sure you don't use those two horrible essays you posted recently to apply.

That promise ring shit was fucking hilarious though.
