Oh... I expected this is be a best instrument to /play/ on acid thread for some reason.

I've only tried playing on acid once and it didn't work well. The instrument I was playing at the time was a little beat up and it's poor tone annoyed me so much I couldn't focus on what I was trying to play.

i listen to the same stuff tripping that i do sober.  things like opeth, pantera, lamb of god, whatever.

not so much STS9 or grateful dead

That'd be fun.  I don't know how much PVC costs.  Anybody got an estimate on how much it would cost to build this?  Sounds like a fun project.

tabla, tenori-on, synth, and vintage organs... those are probably my favorites

or an electric guitar with a very diverse combination of effect pedals

You can make a didgeredoo out of any type of solid cylindrical tube, the length and radius affect the positions of the nodes & anti-nodes, which affects the frequency.

Longer the tube bassier the sound :laugh:.

Theremins are insane to fuck around with while tripping.

But I still prefer the electric guitar...both to play and listen to.

Where I work we sell high pressure PVC for $3.50 a foot

The musical saw and kazoo are pretty killer on acid, but I also like the tribal sounds of didgeridoo, wooden flute, and all varieties of drums.

As far as playing is concerned, an acoustic guitar in open tunings is completely and utterly transcendent. The open drones/pedal tones combined with all the scalar possibilities and you can travel the world.

Or perhaps an electric setup with compression, overdrive, tap tempo delay, wah, and a looper.  :toomuchacid:  Throw in a rack mount effects processor for good measure

As far as listening I think every instrument is great depending on who is playing it. As far as playing, I love messing around on synthesizers while on LSD.
