Getting fit again
    #9209598 -

I know I can, I used to play soccer damn near every day running several miles, playing on state teams taking martial arts playing basketball etc... When I was a kiddy.

I'm 22 now, smoke almost a pack a day. Not fat really, but not fit either. Got some upper body strength, but about all I do is mess with dumbells. So I'm trying to think of an efficient plan to get back into shape. I don't want to quit smoking per say, but am definitely going to cut down to maybe 5 a day.

Help meh with this plan ;    First I want to get meh legs strong again, because strong muscles means more potential for efficient cardio excercise.  Going to hit the gym only for the next month, about 3 times a week, mess with the leg weights do situps, and alternate lower body one day, upper the next.  After each weight workout, a nice big plate of meat for protein. Eggs etc... They all taste good. This should help the muscles repair?

After a month of weight training, gonna start with the bycicle. I like it better than running because all the ground i can cover its fun. Eat lots of whole grains the day before the bike ride, and those carbohydrates should turn into good energy for the next day correct?    Does this sound efficient? I plan to make it 3 days of weight training, 2 or 3 days of gradually increasing mileage for bike riding - per week.

Will this type of exercise also help my lungs out from the tobaccy?

you really need to quit smoking if you're gonna do this, it probably wouldn't matter if you're just lifting weights, but for cardiovascular fitness smoking will greatly reduce the progress you'll make

If you can maintain a regular strength training schedule and cut your smoking down to five a day, I'd say that's quite an accomplishment.  Do it, then see where you're at.

TBH the smoking doesnt seem to hurt too much unless it's cold outside. I can still run suicides pretty fast, but it's those long distance mile runs that area killer -> A reason i opted for the bike over simply running instead. In theory, the exttra bike riding should help me feel better without nicotine as well, and maybe be able to quit smoking?

First thing's first, drop the cigs, NOW.  Throw away your pack and puke on top of the trashcan.  Working out while under the influence of cigs is not good for you due to blood vessel constriction.  After about a week of dieting/cig quitting, hit the gym.

I would suggest quitting if you're going to get serious into cardio. I've always been a runner even when I was a smoer, but since I've quit a month or so ago I've been able to take off roughly a minute off my mile time.
