Atlas Shrugged
    #9113132 -

God, it is seriously one of my instant favorites. I can't believe it took this long to get to reading it.

Ayn Rand, I think I love you.

I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates  capitalism and a productive life or conversely, our socialists/communists/collectivists.

The Fountainhead made a great movie.  Gary Cooper even kind of sounded like Ayn Rand while his character was giving the speech at the trial.

Yeah it's an old black and white flick, but I like Gary Cooper.  He was a gifted actor.

You'd also appreciate Rush's "2112" because Neil Peart was inspired by Ayn Rand.  I forget what the name of that story was, but when I finished reading it, I got all emotional.  hehe

That monologue seems like heresy in the modern world these days.

>>insert generic ayn rand bashing<<

The Fountainhead made me want to be an architect when I was younger. Such an excellent book.

Indeed. I feel the same way about destroying the US by hijacking the important industrialists and artists of our day.

lol, i went to her book "for the new intellectual" to try and find a funny quote.  i kind of found one, but really you have to read a huge wall of text to realize how hysterical (actually hysterical, not hysterical funny) and repetitive she is.

5 pages of the monologue by the boss guy who is a secret communist talking about how his only desire it to make all humans into frail creatures full of despair...

she also has some good rants about how shamans are like the most backwards people and worked to keep people miserable and in fear.

John Galt is Prometheus who changed his mind. After centuries of being torn by vultures in payment for having brought to men the fire of the gods, he broke his chains—and he withdrew his fire—until the day when men withdraw their vultures.

Quote:
For centuries, the battle of morality was fought between those who claimed that your life belongs to God and those who claimed that it belongs to your neighbors--between those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of ghosts in heaven and those who preached that the good is self-sacrifice for the sake of incompetents on earth. And no one came to say that your life belongs to you and that the good is to live it.

Quote:
Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to become the means by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of other men. Blood, whips and guns--or dollars. Take your choice--there is no other.

Quote:
It is not advisable, James, to venture unsolicited opinions. You should spare yourself the embarrassing discovery of their exact value to your listener.

Going into this thread I thought it was the Atlas that carries the world. I think it's Greek Mythology, could be wrong. :p

Good read?
