I feel like my heads gonna explode!!!! (Astronomy Related)
    #9061146 -

This is massive, these hypotheses and observations could potentially alter our entire conception of the universe as we know it. This is incredibly interesting, and could possibly reveal truth to multiple universes, or a larger universe in which our universe exists in. Structures beyond our universe? Dark Flows? Wow, just wow. Please discuss...

Thanks for the links.  Fascinating articles.  I've often wondered how it is that the universe's expansion is accelerating.  My theory is that enormous amounts of high energy radiation were released during the big bang, so much that the photons can pull on the matter of the universe gravitationally as it radiates outward.

very interesting theory about the radiation. this is the visualization ive come up with for myself: the universe is like an inflated balloon, constantly expanding, in which we reside. if you submerge the balloon in water, what weve discovered is evidence of the water of which we have no previous knowledge of. now as for WHAT the water is, we dont know, may never know, but i sure as hell WANT to know!!!

i dont want to look for the article right now, but i also read the theory that the xray images of our universe that weve taken could possibly reflect "shadows" of material objects casting a "shadow" on the surface of our universe. fascinating.

EDIT: heres the link, i wasnt 100% correct on the details, but fascinating nonetheless...

Aren't photons massless?  How can they exert a force gravitationally?

Though they are massless, they do have 'relativistic mass' and momentum and can exert gravitational force (ie, they can bend space time).

i love theoretical debate. I really love theoretical physics debates. just for the sake of a little gas on the fire, commie, you said that photons bend spacetime. That is assuming that Einstein was correct about his idea of spacetime being likened to a bedsheet on which matter travels. IF this theory is wrong, and say, the E8 theory, or the superstring theory is correct; what then would be the force photons are exerting on matter? is that confusing? sorry, kinda baked while im writing this...

I dont think string theory would overturn GR, rather it would supplement and tweak it.  I think string theory is whack anyway. :ohwell:

(To answer your question I have no idea how photons work in string theory.)

string theory is fascinating, i dont know though, after listening to Garrett Lisi talk about his E8 model, it seems like a perfect explanation due to the fact that it works when applied to the real world.
and about the photons, maybe if Lisi is right, the photons as E8 states are part of a multidimensional object that the one point of the object thats a photon is the only point of the object in our dimension, the others being in other dimensions. following me here? ok, so the other points are everything from neutrons, electrons, to hydrogen, but in other dimensions, all existing simultaneously but not in the same plane of reality. these other elements could be attached to something else in the other dimensions, causing an indirect and undetectable force to be exerted on all its other points. this could explain "dark matter" that were constantly looking for, or not... either way, that IS another theory of where the force could come from.

visualizations of E8:

Quote from Rudy Rucker: According to Lisi, all the known particles and forces can be regarded as nodes within a complex mathematical object called E8, a symmetric higher-dimensional polyhedron consisting of 248 vertices in eight-dimensional space, first discovered in 1887.

beautiful concept...
