preventative shots...
    #9060118 -

With all the new shots out there (preventing hpv, chicken pox, hepatitis c) would you get them (for you or your family) right after they are released or would you wait???

I don't know about most of you but doesn't it always seem that a treatment has to be out for like 5 or some odd years before it becomes apparent that the specific medications cause like cancer or other adverse effects that weren't "for seen" in the original clinical trials? I don't know if I'd trust that....

I was just reading about the new shot for hpv and how 1 out of every 4 girls 11-15 got the shot last year and they were disappointed with the low number of people getting the shot and they kind of wonder why...

What are your thoughts on new treatments/pills/shots??

The HPV shot can cause a lot of different complications, some of which are severe. If I remember correctly I saw something recently about a teenager who got the HPV shot and had a bad reaction leaving her mentally retarded.
As for other new shots I don't think waiting five years would be any better than getting them today. It took 20 years for people to figure out that the mercury in pertussis shots could be linked to autism, and some doctors and scientists still will tell you there was never a danger.
I know a guy that is a scientist of some sort. He studied the side effects of vaccinations and what they can actually do. It was scary to listen to some of what he said. Also this don't apply to the general population but there have been studies linking the Gulf War Syndrome to vaccinations that were tested on the military at that time.

I was against getting my daughter getting her shots but her mother did it behind my back. The only reason I am not furious about it is because where I live now there are still cases of almost all the old dangerous viruses. This don't have a vaccine but recently there was a case of Plague on the reservations close to were I live.

I don't mean to laugh, but she DEFINITELY doesn't have to worry about getting any STDs now.

http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2007/sep/07092004.html

"TORONTO, September 20, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - As Canada, in large part due to aggressive behind the scenes lobbying, rolls out the not-comprehensively-tested Merck HPV vaccine for girls as young as nine, a look at developments on the vaccine south of the border should cause Canadians serious concern.  In the United States a similar lobby campaign by the same company launched the mass HPV vaccination of girls beginning in June last year.

In just little over a year, the HPV vaccine has been associated with at least five deaths, not to mention thousands of reports of adverse effects, hundreds deemed serious, and many that required hospitalization.

Judicial Watch, a U.S. government watchdog, became concerned while noting large donations to key politicians originating from Merck.  A freedom of information request from the group in May of this year discovered that during the period from June 8, 2006 - when the vaccines received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) -  to May 2007 there were 1,637 reports of adverse reactions to the HPV vaccine reported to the FDA.

Three deaths were related to the vaccine, including one of a 12-year-old.  One physician's assistant reported that a female patient "died of a blood clot three hours after getting the Gardasil vaccine." Two other reports, on girls 12 and 19, reported deaths relating to heart problems and/or blood clotting.

As of May 11, 2007, the 1,637 adverse vaccination reactions reported to the FDA via the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) included 371 serious reactions.  Of the 42 women who received the vaccine while pregnant, 18 experienced side effects ranging from spontaneous abortion to fetal abnormities."

On another note, the Hepatitis shot is something that I've gotten ... but I wouldn't get a shot for STDs.  I just make sure I know who I'm sleeping with.

And also this!

"One of the major complaints by physicians is that the HPV vaccination program has been implemented before adequate testing has been completed.  Long-term effects of the vaccine remain unknown.  Many are asking why the seemingly reckless rush?

At least one answer to that question comes from the fact that Merck currently is the sole provider of an HPV vaccine with its Gardasil product.  A competing HPV vaccine, Glaxo Smith Kline's Cervarix, is set to hit the market in January 2008. As more children are vaccinated with Gardasil, fewer will be able to later receive the necessary repeat boosters of a competing, incompatible vaccine. Merck is in a race to capture as much of the market as it can, consuming many millions of taxpayer dollars.

U.S. sales of Gardasil are expected to reach $1 billion in the first year of its availability."

That info is from the above link I provided.

I got the hep shot too. Had to for a job. I made it all the way through school without the shots they claim are required. My mom wrote the health department and told them why she didn't want me to have my shots and they sent her an exemption for me.

As far as knowing who you sleep with. That sounds good in theory but there are a lot of people with HPV that have no clue they have it. I had a girlfriend that had HPV and had to get pieces of her cervix burned off. When I asked the doctor if I could get a test done to see if I had it he said there was no such test and I may or may not have it. Then he said not to worry about it because I would probably never have symptoms. I asked him what about passing it on to other girls and he told me that most people have it anyway and if it was him he wouldn't say nothing.

To this day that leads to awkward conversations with any chicks I get involved with. It usually goes : I had a doctor tell me I might have HPV but he said you probably do to so its ok.

I got the hepatitis series of shots when I was in high school... before I really started to understand/hear about side effect of certain meds. I mean I haven't had any issues I know of but honestly if a doctors says most/alot of people have HPV anyway it makes me wonder how necessary it is.

In the same repect though, a lot of men who have clamidia don't know they have it and yet any woman they sleep with who gets it and is untreated can become sterile! Samely any woman who gets HPV and doesn't know it can be more prone to cerival cancer. I mean is it right not to treat something because it won't show signs?

and the whole Gardicil shot doesn't even mean you wont get HPV so is it worth the potential side effects?

On vaccines: Just remember, the pharmaceutical cartel is merely a business. They dont give a shit about your health, and they will sell you anything that makes them money, despite the consequences. Remember as well, a lot of the additives and preservatives found in some of these vaccines are known to be bad for the human body.

The point of the HPV shot is to give it to girls before they are sexually active. That way the virus eventually stops getting transferred after several generations.

I'm confused about the question

If you are referring to HPV. The only treatment for it in men is to remove warts if they present. There is no way to get rid of the virus. Same with women once you have it you have it for life. They can remove pieces of the cervix when in the stages before it turns to cancer in order to prevent it from turning cancerous.

What Im saying is this guys doctor told him he didn't need to be tested and it wasn't necessary to tell his future partners that he may have it so if all that is so unnecessary then why try and prevent it at all? The shot is also said not to protect all who take it, so even girls who were never sexually active before may still be able  to get it along with the potential side effects!

Now when you get a vaccine you can get an ingredient list with it. I would check for any heavy metals in that list. There are other preservatives but I don't remember the bad ones other than heavy metals. The ingredients in the vaccine can vary from one company to the next so keep that in mind. Mainly for people with kids getting those vaccines. You can find lots of info out there if you do the research.

Also I agree to an extant with you pris but I don't take it quite that far even though I think I should sometimes.

And if they have linked this to cervical cancer chances are there will be cancer links in men that they haven't found yet.... Why don't they have a gardicil like shot for men?

My gf's doctor was a dick. People should practice full disclosure with their sexual partners about any std's they might have. I don't think many other doctors would have told me that, at least I hope not.

There are a shitload of states tossing around bills making it mandatory for girls to get the HPV vaccine before entering 6th grade.
What the fuck?  Most of them have an opt-out policy on medical or religious grounds, but how the hell can the government say that an 11 year old HAS to be vaccinated against an STD to go to school?

Only a certain strain or strains can cause cervical cancer.
The shot only protects against the strains causing cancer and warts.

But you always hear people freaking out about HPV causing cervical cancer, but remember it can cause anal and penile cancer too!!!
