Pumpkin carving portraits

I need some ideas for a pumpkin carving. I would like to do a portrait of someone, but I need a good picture (preferably lit from one side)

can anyone help?

I always have liked looking at all the badass carvings done by all the local artist every year here in indiana. They have them all on display downtown at the end of this month

instead of cutting all the way through a pumpkin I like to thin the wall by scraping it. You are able to use shading and you don't have to worry about the design supporting its self.

or you can take it even further and do a full sculpture.

yeah that is awesome! I cant imagine how much patience and time is involved in these full pumpkin sculptures. And i thought id heard of nearly all forms of art and sculpting, i never even contemplated this...

Its getting about that time too, for carving pumpkins, last year i was in vermont heping the kids do simple designs and i tried a simple spider web, and fucked it up :shrug:
