Hey, well character wise the strongest is mage, but i think basic warrior if the most fun. or even do mage and warrior mix, that would be good too, but in all honesty i play as a warrior with the difficulty setting all the way down so its really fun
anything else let me know!

I was always told that making a custom class was the best way to go. If you go to http://www.gamefaqs.com and look up Oblivion, I am sure you will find all the information you are looking for. That site is awesome.

I dont think it matters all that much. Your game progress/experience is whats key.

assassin/thief/stealth type characters were the most fun classes to play in that game. i spent so much fucking time on that game playing as an assassin, and i dont regret it at all.
I would try a stealth type character if i were you.

I play with difficulty almost all the way up. Making a character in that game is an art. You should def make a custom class, and be careful with attribute distribution. Anyways i don't play anymore, but i did play it from release day until a couple months ago. I don't think it was as good as morrowind. I am a big ES fan. So much love to this thread.

I find a redguard with heavy armor, blade, athletics and block in its primary skills in a class (i usually make custom) with the warrior or steed birthsign great on all difficultly levels. Even with only an akaviri one handed katana and blades armor and shield this build is deadly on medium setting on difficulty +20 setting i think at lvl 13. though i did skip the allies for bruma quest line and just close the massive oblivion gate and miss out on much fame points and levelling.
Another build i like is a Dark elf with Blade, Destruction, athletics, heavy armor, and sneak as its focus. Dark elves are quite versatile and the natural resistance to fire makes then perfect for wandering the realm of oblivion.
it all depends on what you're going for. I found argonians are great to start with for thieves guild or dark brotherhood. and Khajiit are great in the arena and out and about using only hand to hand.
Bretons make great mages. though to maximise their worth (your intelligence/willpower) it pays to have other magicka based skills in your custom class skills repitoire to use and build upon.
Though in saying that with enough time and patience any character can be versatile or masters in specifics. Its just that each race starts out with different advantages and weaknesses to others. Though, i like high elves the least.
There are mods that balance the game a bit more (races and birthsigns) and make pure magicka characters on par with pure warriors/rangers.
