So, my buddy has a legal growsite, growing for a single patient currently, and he was talking with me about it. He mentioned that 3 out of the plants he is growing have started flowering without light change. Lighting schedule is 18/6 for veg. (This is what I told him to do, since I am au naturale, and this is what I used to do because I saw NO difference in having my lights on 24/7... except a considerably higher electricity bill). I took a look, and I'll be damned, but the little fuckers are flowering without ANY change in environment... Except that it maybe got darker cuz I told him to black out his window.

Now, when I was growing, my babies ALWAYS started sexing on their own, with absolutely no initiation. So, my questions are: why is this happening? And, even though they are sexed, can he leave the lighting schedule where it's at till he's ready to actually flower them, or will they hermaphrodize? This has always boggled me, seeing as how I have never heard of anyone else having this problem. Please, any thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks.

I would really like some sort of input on this. It's the difference between potentially seedy bud, and gorgeous buds with no seeds. Anybody with extensive knowledge on growing herb, please offer up your thoughts.

Plants do start to show sexes even on 18/6 cycle at least if they are vegged for long time. I'm not sure about flowering all the way to victory but at least preflowering. As they are annual plants they are keen to reproduce before the season / their lifespan is out.
Maybe you could see what it'll eventually produce on 18/6 cycle? :wink:

Yeah. I looked up preflowering as I have never heard that phrase before. But apparently it's natural. ? Who knew. However, they haven't been flowering for very long; 3.5 weeks maybe. Meh. I will have him keep them on 18/6 till his other 3 preflower. Then he can kick them down from there. Thanks homiez! That's right, with a *Z*.

How old are the plants, and yes as stated above, plants will begin to show sex without a change in light cycle. This usually only happens with plants that have been in veg state for a while or, as stated above, an autoflowering strain. I doubt it is the later from what you said.

Preflowers, showing sex, early flowering is 6 or half a dozen. Same thing in other words. Just like bisexual (correct language) or hermaphordite (common).

If its a "legal" grow then why doesn't he grow outdoors? He'll have much bigger yield that way.
I used to have my script until I moved out of Norcal and I always  grew outdoors. The only time we uld grow indors was over the winter.

Well, the plants are about 4 weeks old from sight of first leave. But, as I mentioned before, ALL of the plants that I used to grow did this, and now so are these. It is kinda  annoying cuz he/we wanted them to veg for another couple weeks, and don't want to take a chance on having them hermaphrodize. I think I am gonna have him wait for the remainder of the plants to show sex, then change the lighting schedule. (He's getting his info from me, thus me being involved, FYI. It's not me trying to cover myself up. LOL.:thumbup:)

Trance: I live in Oregon... Can't exactly grow outside this time of year. But, he's gonna attempt this spring.
