"A woman is nothing" would be the independent clause, and "without her man" would be the dependent one.

But seriously, fuck grammar.  I can't even clearly remember when it's advisable to use an adverb and when it's not.

Yeah, grammar's no fun when you've got to remember the rules and the names of "clauses" and "elves" and "toy-shops." Usually --as a by-product of a voracious literary appetite-- I'm able to identify mistakes and avoid them, but Veritas really got me with that (apparently) dependent clause.

The first is incorrect.  The second one is probably the one you want as it carries the same meaning, whereas the third one also has correct grammar but changes the meaning of the sentence.
