Weird F+ monotub grow. They're Shorties!?!?!

Hey Guys Ive got a few questions, Ive got a monotub fruiting with F+ in it and they are all looking extremely stubby!  It's like they are pushing through the casing layer with their veil broken..... Weird!  The conditions are perfect, the humidity is 100% the temp is 72-74, air circulation is perfect... I dont understand, is this just a genetic thing?  Heres some pics, let me know what you think....





Here are some monster cambodians I grew in the tub next to this one, they turned out guuuuurrrrrrrreeeeaatttttttttt!!!  I forgot to take a pic of the canopy, but it was almost perfect, they were basically all monsters too, with only 1 abort.  Its getting dunked right now though....  Keep u updated.

in my non professional opinion, it looks like the casing is rather clumpy and slightly matted. 

I've had that problem before.  but now before i wet my casing i run it through a screen to make sure its finely i guess.. grated.

the uncolonized, kind of non airy casing layer is probably starving for oxygen underneath..

im sure as flushes go as they will.. it'll get better and better.

good luck..  and.. like i said, i'm no pro, but thats just my .02

I agree, that casing layer looks a bit too wet and definately to compact.

You want a nice, fluffy, loosely applied casing layer. As in sprinkled on top and allowed to just sit where it lands.

The little air pockets that are created by this technique create little humid microclimates that the mycelium uses to produce pins.

As the above poster mentioned as soon as it dries out a bit it should produce more. You might consider taking a sterilized fork and scratching it or trying to fluff the casing layer up a bit.

Everyone has their own preference but thats why I use coir and vermiculite for my casing layer 70/30. It stays fuff and resists matting even if you accidentally spray to much water on it.

thanks for the input guys.  I used Miracle Grow Moisture Control... I brought it to field capacity and pasteurized it like I always do... this casing came out of the same batch I bulk made and used in several tubs, they all did superb, this one is looking crappy.  I'm still not sold that it isn't a genetic thing.  The casing layer is like 1/4" thick probably and its fluffy not packed down,  the pic is not the best to show that.  It might be a bit too wet, I had somebody else mist for me for a few days while I was gone, so it could've gotten overdone a bit during that time....

OZZ I use coir for a bulk sub, but not a casing layer, most knowledgeable people around the forum would advice against that because it has nutrients in it which isn't good for a casing layer.  But thinking about it, I guess its the same as adding more substrate to the top of it and not casing at all... sort of
