We need to implement groups of buyers and groups of sellers. You sign up your friends and family, and they are part of your group. Your group is part of a larger group who knows each other (a la 6 degrees of separation). Kind of like a dark net.

Here's the plan: if one buyer does something immoral, the entire group is punished -- but! there's a catch! If a buyer does something immoral, the rest of the group can resolve the issue, temporarily ban, or permanently ban the member.

Same for a seller.

It promotes a sense of community, because I know that there are legions of good guys out there who would love to unionize/associate/affiliate with other good guys. Then, instead of buying from individuals, we can order from groups.

Another idea is paying really small and optional fees as insurance or for special services that no one person can afford, but can benefit the whole group. The company handles this, not any specific member of the group. Also, your group can have a set number of guidelines that each member (or maybe each person who interacts with the group) must follow. So you can say "All buyers in this group must report defective or false products within 7 days or they're out." or "All sellers must photograph all merchandise, make sure to keep records, and keep up good communication with buyers."


Here is the most powerful aspect of it: grouping based on interests. Sound innocuous at first, but let me tell you why it's so powerful. If a bad seller in a specific area rips off one person, that one person can let the entire group know. That group can tell other groups. Those groups can tell everyone else, and eventually, that one bad seller can never sell again. If the group is based off of trust and reputation, the buyer has no reason to lie and he will have a really hard time lying about competitors if he's a mole(randomly, others might attempt to verify these claims by making fake purchases) without getting caught. Now, if you sell one kind of thing, everyone interested in it will not buy it from you.

Also, if you're a shithead buyer, have fun trying to join a new group with actual reputation after throwing your account away ripping someone off.

Eventually, like deals with like. The system becomes too powerful and you can't muscle your way in. I know it might not sound fair now, but if you make it into the groups with lots of reputation for being good people, you don't have to worry about being ripped off because you're covered as a buyer or a seller. Most of the policing will be done within the group.

Good idea and to the point, tell me what you think. I'll elaborate if needed.

Doesn't the Shroomery already promote something similar to this with ratings representing the trustworthiness of each buyer/seller?

Groups of shady people could come together to form shady ass groups. 
They could then get other people working with them to form groups of buyers, and do a shitload of fake transactions with eachother, so that the shady buyers get tons of positive feedback.  Then the buyers could go around ripping people off, and it would only affect their ratings slightly.

Bam, I just foiled your plan.

But this implies that the groups of shady people would be less shady enough to form an inter-trustworthy group.  If they're truly sketchy, they would be too busy back-stabbing each other to form the group in the first place.
